Thanks!

I would want to buy a Brabus G36 Cabrio. I think that 3,6 liter motor is great for the short wheel base model.
But you have to play at higher RPMs to get the power out of the motor.

The 2 valve M117 has more torque at low RPM (from scratch) than even the M119 4 valve motor, which is widely regarded as the finest V8 Mercedes produced. This motor was fitted to the 500E W124 chassis car.

A M119 WILL fit into a G Class engine bay. I have seen TWO AMG built G models with this motor installed. They were factory AMG cars.

ORC in Germany has done such conversions for rally G's. I haven't seen street versions (non rally). I was told that the m119 engine could not be fit in the 463 because their was not enough room. Maybe somebody else can confirm or correct this information.

Don't ask me how, but it fits.

there is a glitch in your link, Dutch, images don't show for some reason

That is one of the little idiosyncrasies of this software. When someone clicks on a link to another post on P3, it oftentimes requires the person to re-login. If you're not logged in, you can't see the attached files/images.

Happens to me frequently, but not always, when I click on someone else's link to another message on P3. Unfortunately. without a webmaster, there is nothing that can be done to remedy this little bug.

Try re-logging in after you click on the link.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

So,

The story gets better.

I was told a letter came for me today from Germany.

Ends up being from the original owner of my 500 GE.

January 09, 2012
Hello Cole,

I send you the "Datenkarte" from the 500 GE. I hope that's what you need. I'm very happy that my once beloved car came to you and lives now in Miami under the sunny sky. Maybe one time we have time to visit you over there. I've never been to Miami, a lot of other places in the USA, but never to Miami. We only knew Miami from watching it on TV. My English is not very good anymore I hope you understand everything. My daughter is a lot better in this!

Many greetings from the very rainy "Germany"

Yours, A

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

I have another gripe:

Apparently, on earlier W463 Gs, such as my 500 GE, there is no button to lock/unlock the electronic door locks.

I wish I had a button to operate the electric door locks.

1999/2000's didn't either. Driver's door lock knob or the key fob button controls them all.

Yes, if I press my driver's door lock down, all doors lock.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

why now have somebody wire a switch for you?
the door lock switch only costs about $70, iirc
looks factory installed

i had mine put in on the center console by the front power window switches

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Hello to Jakarta,

That is a good idea.

How did you trim the hole for the switch in the center console?

Did you use a router on the wood to make a space for the switch? What tool is best for this job?

Thank you!

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

i had it done for me

lots of very small drill holes
underneath the veneer, there are already switch holes on the wooden base or plastic frame, iirc
it was a long time ago, i can't remember exactly how it looks, but it was not rocket science, just need some time & patience

Ahh, that makes sense. I know what you are talking about. They have spare positions for the switches that are marked on the wood panel underneath. Makes sense.

Thank you.

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

yes.. precisely..
you're welcome sir.

hope it works for you.
locking the door is not such a big deal as you can just do it with your elbow, but unlocking is a pain as you'd have to open your door to let other people in.

or in jakarta's case, to let security personnels / dogs check your car cabin each time you enter a building complex, any building complex/parking. some even wants you to open your hood to look into the engine compartment. undercarriage mirrors are standard everywhere

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Yes, I saw your G meeting with fellow Indonesian G owners.
I would love to have a T-Shirt from the meet.

Yes, I am familiar with the security concerns in Indonesia and the security protocol.

In S. Florida, we do not have the bomb problem yet, but I do not want to have to open my door to let someone inside the car. This is my problem.

I will probably add the switch like you have proposed. A very good solution.

Thank you, my friend.

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

So, another project on the list. The floor mats. I have Brabus floor mats that the vehicle came with from the original owner. These are "vintage" Brabus floor mats that feature a very cool Brabus G-Wagen silhouette outlined in the bottom corners of the mat. The issue I have is that they have red colour thread border trim/edge binding that does not match well with the paint or interior (at least in my opinion).

I was initially going to buy new Brabus G mats. Sadly, the current Brabus mats do NOT have the cool G-Wagen silhouette on them. Just a Brabus letter "B", which is not half as cool.

I would also like to pay respect to the vehicle by honoring the previous owner's request that I keep it with the accessories she had ordered it with.

Solution? I called my upholsterer. A 60 year old, stuck in the 1960s, biker with a pony tail, tattoo sleeves from rotator cuffs to cuff links, and bejeweled in turquoise and sterling silver Native American Indian bling. A religious straight talker who abstains from smoke and drink, he could sew Buckingham Palace blind and not skip a stitch.

I explained my problem. He said: "Get me some black leather. We will go for the subtle luxury look". "It won't be in your face, but it will look real plush".
"We will edge bind them in black leather and it will look like your Designo floor mats in your G55".

So I got on the horn with Austria and ordered up some factory G "leder", which should arrive at the beginning of next week.

Will post pictures before and after.

He is a real artist, and as a patron, I NEVER EVER rush artists. So this project will be completed eventually.

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

I had to go into my material archives...This was a special Millennium Edition industry portfolio I received in the year 2000.

Growing Partnership with Daimler-Chrysler:
How does a supplier know when the customer is really satisfied with the work done? From the long term development of cooperation. if the partnership becomes more intensive over the years, the chances are that it's the right one. And this is exactly how it is with Wollsdorf Leather Austria as a supplier to Daimler Chrysler.

This cooperation started around 1994, although it was at first relatively indirectly. At that time, Wollsdorf Leder was making particularly technically demanding steering wheel leather for Mercedes. Through this, came the green light as the exclusive leather supplier for the seats and door cladding of the "Mercedes G", better known in Austria as the "Puch G".....

And so on....
