Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

I can't get away with wearing a Jester's cap these days.

It was a good story but I am still surprised by the number of views for an old but good truck.

be a Jester - even better

it IS a good story, keep it going. It's all straight forward and honest.
And you are very enthusiastic about it.
Unlike most areas of our lives - no hype, no lies.

You could not be a candidate for anything public.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Our very own "Harald" @ 4x4ABC was most gracious and mailed to me an original silver "500 GE" tie clip.

I was particularly happy to receive this piece with its well loved patina as it also came from Harald, whose name is almost synonymous with the G-Klasse.

The 500 GE silver plaque, which was included with the tie clip, was always sent framed by this German company: http://www.nielsen-design.de/

I am going to order a matching black anodized aluminum frame for the tie clip so that both artifacts match.

thank you for your kind words - but I don't really deserve the laurels.
I am only paying forward what was made possible by the real Mr. G-Klasse - Heinz Neunzig

The G-Klasse and you are almost synonymous, Harald. Really an honor and a pleasure to have your ex-tie clip.

I will always fondly remember the story of your "roadside assistance" while traveling through the remote parts of the Russian wilderness so many years ago, too.

The G community would not be what it is without your contributions.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

Before heading to the gun range...and...After the gun range.

Note in first picture the Bluish tint to the paint under shade. In direct sunlight, it looks Purple. At dusk, it fades to Black...

Note in second picture the bright red "GWOA" (G-Wagen Owner's Association U.K.) windscreen badge on driver's side, lower corner.

In the above two photos, your G (to me) looks a shade away from the "Steel Grey" color Mercedes Benz currently offers.

Re: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

There is a "grey" look to the blue paint when viewed in indirect light.
"Amethyst Blue Metallic" plays with the mind. I will post one at dusk, when it looks black. Standby.

RE: After 10+ years, I have my 500 GE.

And here is the Austrian leather bound mats...some 2 weeks and $500 USD later....I had them "blind stitched" so you see no stitch marks/thread marks and they were seamed at the 12 o' clock position in most cases as that part tucks up under the dashboard or under the backs of the seats. That way, when sitting in the vehicle, no seam is visible.
It is all in the attention to detail...
