How long is the drive from San Diego to the starting point? Is one week enough time to join? Sorry for trying to invite myself but I always wanted to join you on one of these trips in Baja. Cheers! Tom Tom, we all would love to see you join. Driving time from San Diego 2 days (for me). 12hrs driving time the first day and approx. 8 hrs the second day. This is for the total distance to La Paz. You might be able to join the group at a more northerly location, if so desired. Please contact Harald, to discuss his route & schedule Karl

I've always wanted to join you guys in Baja. Perhaps this year will work in terms of timing. I'll reach out to Harald to check on options. Take care! Tom

You can exit at any point and time to go home early. Now we will have to set an exact date (still mid November in the planning)

I heard yesterday that the dates are during Thanksgiving week which unfortunately won't work for me. Maybe I'll pay you a visit on my own.

4x4abc Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: La Paz, Baja California, Mexico Vehicle(s): 02 G500 | Re: Baja trip November/December OK, trip is taking shape. For a number of reasons, a start after Thanksgiving would be best. The following weekend good for all? Duration about 2 weeks Logistics in Baja are difficult - driving times are long. That's why we should all meet in Catavina - about 1/3 down the peninsula. Small village with maybe 20 houses. More importantly a hotel. It'll take me almost 2 days to get to Catavina from La Paz - so, we are almost even. For you it'll be 7+ hours from the border. Wanna start from Catavina Saturday or Sunday (you need to arrive then Friday or Saturday)? Basic layout: explore the unknown. I have some very cool things in mind. Drive, chat, eat, drink - repeat. Camp often. Shower/hotel every 3rd or 4th night. For the guys with restricted time tables: you can leave the group almost at any point and head home. Bring a shovel as we may have to build our own road on occasion. I will scout one particular section before the trip to ensure that it's passable (hurricane damage). For ease of operation I will provide almost all food and drinks (even cook for you). Trust me, it's the easiest way. Still working on a plan for pooling money for restaurants, hotels etc. Trust me on that one as well. Make sure you all get Mexico car insurance for the duration of the trip (online). Please send me a PM or e-mail so I know who is coming. Co-diver seats might be available. Looks like 5 trucks with 8 participants at the moment. No special equipment needed. 5 gal spare gas a must, 10 gal recommended. Please bring shovel.

There are 2 locations after our start in Catavina where possible late joiners could meet the group: Bahia de Los Angeles (1 to 2 days later) and El Barril/San Francisqito (2 to 3 days later). From Catavina I had the following things in mind: never before traveled "road" between MEX1 and Coco's visit Coco travel the enchanted valley follow missionary trail Bahia de los Angeles follow missionary trail from Rancho San Pedro to El Barril stay on east coast follow unmarked track towards Santa Marta explore some variations along the way San Ignacio or Santa Rosalia maybe Playa Santa Ines maybe head through the mountains from Mulege to the west coast maybe head to the mountains later (to Mission Comondu) maybe follow the east coast stop at San Basilio then Mission San Javier Loreto possibly Agua Verde (I have to scout the back door for possible damages first) time permitting, Mission Gonzaga, San Evaristo home to La Paz along the east coast at this point we have 3 G confirmed - 3 others are on the fence Karl and I will entertain you with stupid German jokes

Possible Gwagen sightings near La Paz and 80 miles north of SRL. Film is being processed and will be available on Monday. Most of the Baja was obscured with clouds Yesterday, so we may need to do some local recon to get better photos from this Treffen. Edited by Aircruiser 12/1/2013 10:06 AM
