colsG55 Veteran Date registered: Aug 2013 Location: Dubai Vehicle(s): G55 Classic 2000, TD5 110, 200 Series Land Cruiser Posts: 209 | Vacuum leak G'day all, I am pretty sure I have a vacuum leak but am having trouble locating it, you can hear it most of the time most of the time when driving slower, I am guessing road & wind noise drown it out at faster speeds. Under trailing throttle it also goes which is why I am pretty sure it is a leak, fuel consumption is also slightly up as well. I have have had a good look around the engine & cannot find any obvious damaged hoses with the engine over off, running & revving the engine will not reproduce the noise, I don't think there is enough load on the engine to make it leak. Are there any known places where vacuum leaks occur & are there any vacuum hoses used in the cabin to control valves for ventilation etc as the noise seems to be either at the rear of the engine or possible just in the cabin. | ||

This touches the underside of the cover and will wear through. I just replaced mine on the 1999 and have seen 2 that were worn through at the Oregon gathering in June this year, both 2002s. | ||

I would check out what Otiswesty suggested and while you are in there, look at the rubber connectors that have a vacuum line attached and that connect to the motor for cracking. Common for rubber to not show any leaks when cold and as it warms will expand and have a leak. Especially look at connections in heat prone areas....although in Dubai, I guess that may be everywhere. My bet is a rubber connector has some heat cracking. Being that you say you hear it near the rear of motor or inside, maybe check the differential lock vacuum system on firewall. You may have a sticker under the hood/bonnet or affixed somewheres that has a brief description of the motor vacuum line diagram. I have attached photos of the differential lines: Let us know your findings as may help others later with same issue. The lines to the diff lock solenoids also look good as do most of the other lines. The one thing I think it might be is the large plastic line connecting to the manifold for the brake booster, this seems to be a bit loose in its connection & you can move it fore & aft about 1/4-1/3 of an inch, when the engine is running it is sucked a little more firmly into place but I somehow doubt it is a perfect seal. It is in the same area where I think the noise is coming from as well. The access to the pipe is not the easiest & for fear of snapping it it I did not force it to much trying to remove it, there does not seem to be a clamp holding it into place, has anyone removed one of these before as I dread the idea of pulling the inlet manifold off if I snap the insertion point or break a piece off inside if the pipe breaks. | ||

Mine looks a little different being an earlier model but along similar lines. I found a length of small vacuum line to fit in place of the original connector and everything seems to be working fine again. | ||
