Have to sell my 1980 300GD (turbo)

I have it listed on my local Craigslist for more images, I'm in Ashland, Oregon: http://medford.craigslist.org/cto/5950978969.html

Mercedes Benz 300GD (turbo) 1980 Manual Transmission, $14,000

I have owned this vehicle for the past 10 years and as reluctant as I am to sell it, I'm moving overseas and cannot take it with me.

This G-class Mercedes is a 1980 model, early w460 short wheel base that originally came with a 5 cylinder 617 diesel engine producing 88 horse power. It was imported from Germany in 2005. In 2009 I replaced the engine with a rebuilt (basically new motor) 617 turbo charged diesel from Metric Motors in CA, increasing the hp to about 125. There aren't many short wheel base early year G-wagens in the states, fewer that were converted to turbos and I have yet to hear of one with a new motor. Since the engine replacement I have put less than 20k miles on it.

Other things I've had done since ownership are - front axle rebuild, front and rear suspension replaced with Bilstein shocks and Mercedes heavy duty springs (2" lift), radiator was recored, gas tank cleaned and lined, rebuilt clutch, new exhaust line with engine replacement, rear brake rebuild, and many other smaller projects. I've put over $20k into the vehicle and have most of my records as well as import information. I also have DVDs with shop manuals and parts numbers.

My intensions were to bring this vehicle back to excellent condition in smaller steps as I could afford them. Unfortunately, with the move I won't see the end goal but I do feel I'm over half way there and with a little more investment you could have an incredible vehicle. This Mercedes runs and drives great, you won't win any drag races but it will get you there no matter the terrain. It is one of the best performing vehicles off road I've been in, snow, mud, it's great. Like all older cars there are issues and this one is no exception - Rust is major, I was hoping to eventually take the entire body off the chassis to repair or replace damage. You can buy body panels from Mercedes directly or from several specialists in the states. I've seen clean older bodies come up for sale starting at $5k which would probably the easiest cheapest fix. The rear bearing on the transmission has slight play and I was told it could most likely be replaced without removing the entire transmission. The transfer case will not stay in 4 wheel low without holding the stick there, this also causes the odometer to not operate. I have a contact through G-wagen Preserve in the Bay Area who rebuilds these and I've also seen older transfer cases for sale from time to time. These are the three top issues, there's the occasional electrical demon that usually leads to a burnt fuse but it's quite the vehicle all around, it sure gets attention driving through town.

I'm happy to answer questions via email, thanks.
