460 wiring questions

I am rebuilding a diesel 460 that came out with the truck type combi switch with horn on the end button, and the rocker type light switch. i have a newer harness with sedan combi, horn in the steering boss and rotary light switch which I will use.

I am adding AC to the new harness and have a 1987 diesel wiring diagram, but it shows no AC.

Question 1:

The AC evap unit that I have, has only two wires coming out of it. My wiring diagram shows three wires (plus earth) going from the switch to the fan for the three speeds. I assume there is a new fan selector switch with internal resistors that I should source? Anyone know please?

Question 2:

Will this fan switch supply a signal that I can connect to the regulator switch on the AC control to energise the compressor clutch?

Thanks

Andrew,

the AC is it the Behr unit sitting between the dash and floor - kinda like a middle console? I have an '81 460 with that original (factory) setup like this - might be able to help

Re: 460 wiring questions

Ja, it is Oskar. I stripped it apart to clean and check it and confirmed that the motor feed is only two wire so I am certain the resistor pack is elsewhere.

The unit has a 461 number, so I got hold of a 461 wiring diagram but it shows no resistors, just THREE wires straight from the switch onto the motor.

If it's mounted between the dash and the floor, it is not an original factory unit. The factory unit was integral within the dash.

Not in my 1984 280GE. Attached is the one that was from the factory in 1984. It was fully integrated in the heating system.

Re: 460 wiring questions

Mine is like your picture Dutch.

Now if your item 53 is a resistor pack the problem is solved.

Re: 460 wiring questions

Thank you both kindly.

I will employ Ohms law for a bush remedy and bypass the dealership.

Fire insurance is in place.
