15-year preventive maintenance items

What are your thoughts and experience regarding these traditional long-term age maintenance that are usually recommended around 15 years?

- replace coolant hoses, thermostat, and usually water pump
- replace brake hoses if rubber (not braided metal)
- replace gasoline hoses

I have had the first one done on my 2002 G, and am considering the other two. The G has less than 110 Kmi, but every year it gets a year older as Warren Miller (ski movies) would say.

My primary motive is to keep this G running as beautifully and reliably as it has since new and to absolutely avoid a breakdown especially when we are on trails in areas with no help around.

Any other items that you recommend around this age?

Thank you,
Michel

intake and exhaust manifold gaskets
Fasteners for both and crush washers
If you have turbo-rubber gaskets in oil return tube 1 at junction of pipe and one into the oil pan. There's an o ring as well.
Fuel sending unit and gasket
Strainer in tank if gas
Have a spare glow plug relay fuse in your glove box

Fuel filter?  You'd be surprised how many people forget.

More long term:

Checked the front wheel bearings lately?

The plastic CV boots on center drive shaft have probably cracked by now.  The grease will dry up and then the CVs will wear.  You can get new boots and grease or just wait till the vibrations start and replace the shaft.  This does not fail catastrophically so it can wait.

RE: 15-year preventive maintenance items

Thank you Alan and Blugg.
I am more indeed looking for unwritten long term items. All my filters and fluids are changed very frequently, and the bearings and boots checked several times a year, both appear perfect for now.

I would replace the hose that goes from the power steering reservoir to the power steering cooling radiator. Mine split in the most inconvenient desert. I would also check the other rubber hoses in that system.

Check the puddle lights in the doors. Mine crumbled; the plastic disintegrated.

Check the underbody earthing wires.

Check the cylinder head breathing hoses and where, in particular, they connect to the head via a small pipe.

Check the hoses on the differential lock system under the car, the actuators.

Re: 15-year preventive maintenance items

Thank you MiN for these suggestions, I will check these hoses and parts.

I also talked with my mechanic about the brake and gas hoses, he said exactly like Dutch had told me, that these would not fail suddenly, so they should just be regularly inspected. Thank you Dutch!
