RE: 1995 G320 - oil level warning lamp conundrum

I had a chance to install the new MPH Speedo today as well as the degree F ambient temperature display from Gerry.
Cheers, it works.

I guess the factory tested the speedo by running it backwards, so I am about to break ONE MILLION miles!

RE: 1995 G320 - oil level warning lamp conundrum

I was curious why the turn signal indicator in the strip never came on.
Here is the description in the manual.

I was towing my Westy trailer last weekend and didn't notice if the double arrow indicator was working.

I asked this 8 years ago and and here is the answer from "Oskar":

 **************

Mike,

I guess it depends:

in case the car is "German" wired and still original then the current sensing is in flasher/emergency flasher box.

Then, the additional control (Trailer Control) - with no trailer attached - should flash one time when you signal.

With trailer it needs to flash all the time when you signal, except when a lamp on the trailer is broken

However this "German" wiring requires a trailer wiring where stop and turn signal have individual bulbs.

Case you already have a Euro-to-US adapter then, AFAIK, the additional trailer control lamp will not work because the additional current drawn thru the flasher box is insuffient

HTH

Oskar

Double Arrow

otiswesty - 7/19/2017 1:13 AM

When I use my blinker or hazard switch, the blinker indicator in the right side strip does nothing.
There are right and left arrows that are working as appropriate to either side of the speedo.
Maybe this is some vestigial indicator lens that is not used. My ABS and SRS warning lights are functional.

Just curious if this double arrow lens is functional in any other of the G320s here.

Those arrows only flash when you are connected to a trailer's electric and you use the turn signal.

Re: 1995 G320 - oil level warning lamp conundrum

My double-arrow lamp flashes when I have the hazard light switch activated. I've not towed a trailer nor attached it electrically, so can't confirm Dutch's statement.

Cheers,
Gerry

The Owners Manual does confirm it. See attached.

Glad that you got 'er installed and all is working fine.  Generally when I find nice ones I grab them out of cars at the yard, but about 20% of the time they are still wonky, which is why I sent you two of them

Re: 1995 G320 - oil level warning lamp conundrum

Sorry to be off topic from original thread: My original turn signal relay fried, I got a new "trailer" specific one from fourbyfourclub that now makes the trailer signal light always flash whenever the flashers are on even when there is no trailer. Did MB have a specific turn signal relay for Gwagens with trailer wiring?

In the EPC for my 2000 G500, there is a relay for the turn signal blinkers and a second relay for the 4 way flashers or for the trailer plug. There are two different relays available for that second relay - one of them is trailer specific.

On my 2000 G500, that double arrow trailer signal light flashes when the 4-ways are activated and when the turn signals are used with a trailer connected. It does not flash if the turn signals are used with no trailer attached.

Re: 1995 G320 - oil level warning lamp conundrum

Confirmed that my G320's bi-directional arrow lamp only lights up (flashes) when the emergency flashers are activated.

I'm sure if I attached a trailer with European wiring, that it would also flash if the G+trailer's turn signals were activated.

It doesn't have to be a European wired trailer. My Australian made camper LED lights and a US 7-pin plug flashes that trailer indicator arrow when it's connected to the G or my Q7.

DesertStar - 7/15/2017 9:14 PM

Let us know if they are still available...I have my EPC open now (looking up 400E camshaft seals) so here is the symbol strip for the G320.

Official word from MB is that this strip is no longer available, and is not in any MB parts stock anywhere in the world (including Germany).

Thus, I'll probably "manufacture" one using existing W124 strips that I have in hand.

Bummer.

Too bad, but not super surprising. I'll document the "HOW-TO" process I follow in manufacturing myself a correct one.
