I killed my Warn XD9000 several years ago. It's been under water too many times. The motor is unresponsive (when manually connecting the battery to the winch on both directions). I'm pretty sure the solenoid pack has bad solenoids, and will have to be rebuilt as well. My winch is 20 years old and technology has improved, although the Warn winches have a proven track record and are capable of being rebuilt. I am considering the Smittybilt X2O 10000/12000 which is a waterproof winch with wireless controller. They can be purchased new for less than $400-$500 with lifetime mechanical and 3 year electrical warranty. Let me know what you think. If there is another I should consider, please add it.

For $ 400-500,- you won't save that much money buying new Warn parts and rebuilding it. And you'll be getting a stronger winch in return.

I've had good luck with Superwinch - you can get their Tiger Shark 11,500 SR with synthetic rope for $450. Regardless of what you choose, I prefer the synthetic rope - so much easier to use in all aspects.

I sold my inop Europa Warn winch with the steel cable and solenoid pack for $100 at a swap meet for parts. I reused the inner fender solenoid wiring for a cut off switch to a new bumper mounted power outlet. It was a very tight fit, and I had to remove the front grill to fit it inside of the bumper and wire it up. I was able to use the existing cables from my original WARN winch. There is no way that the winch will fit with the solenoid box on top (with the bull bars), so I plan on placing new solenoid box under the wheel well where the original one was. This unit has both wired and wireless RF controller. I will be rewiring the wireless on/off switch inside of the cabin, and migrating the manual plug to the front bumper like the original WARN switch. I am waiting on the extended cables and switches before I remove the tire and wire in the solenoid pack. Although the entire winch and solenoid pack is supposed to be waterproof, the solenoid box itself is not sealed. Thus I don't feel bad migrating the plug and switch... I would like to use the G-Wagon switch - http://www.fourbyfourclub.com/W460ElectricalParts/W460SwitchWinch.htm
