Disable Alarm

My alarm goes off for no reason at all. The StarDiag does not see it, this I cannot find the faulty switch. The horn does not have a battery attacked, and thus is not the issue. Is there a way to disable the alarm system while allowing this key button lock to still work?

RE: Disable Alarm

Can't you just disconnect the plug that's connected the alarm siren?

The lights would still flash...

RE: Disable Alarm

Is this the one you just did a transplant in? Including the ECU and other electronics?

Re: Disable Alarm

You might try adjusting the hood sensor bracket on the firewall.

Re: Disable Alarm

You should have 5 door switches and a hood switch. Even if you're not replacing them you may try cleaning contacts or the like just to see if that fixes it.

RE: Disable Alarm

There was a run of bad door/hood switches that had crumbly plastic parts on the inside.  I had to replace all of mine as they failed one by one.

If the dome light isn't on when the alarm gets tripped then you can assume that the switch that triggered the alarm is the under-hood switch.  It sits on a bracket that can be bent upwards to ensure contact.  You can also pull the connector off of the switch without any other side effects.

RE: Disable Alarm

I've disconnected the hood sensor in order to test and rule it out. I haven't attempted to swap all of the doors yet. I was attempting to target the problem location in the unit.

This problem has existing before any of the engine changes were made, and have still persisted afterwards.

Re: Disable Alarm

Mine was going off randomly so I ended up cutting the wire to the siren.

RE: Disable Alarm

Which controller box is responsible for the alarm? Is it common with any other car or truck?

Re: Disable Alarm

Any progress? I am still having very intermittent alarm sounding, replaced the sensor, then unplugged- still sounds- seems to happen when the truck is hot.

K40 Relay located in the electronics box under the hood in front of the passenger.

The K40 includes the horn relay, but that isn't the same horn that is used for the alarm.  That one is hidden under the brake booster (on mine).

RE: Disable Alarm

Has anyone attempted to unplug it? How does it interact with the rest of the systems?

Re: Disable Alarm

You can remove the wires to the siren and all will work fine. It's located way up top..towards the front..under the driver side wheel well.
I'm betting it's the siren's built in batteries..they corrode over time and randomly set off the alarm.

Re: Disable Alarm

Here's a thread of interest on the issue.
You can see what the inside of the siren looks like.

Re: Disable Alarm

I had assumed the pre MBUSA Gs don't have a siren battery- is that incorrect?

That may be the cause of my random alarm, but it's never happened when driving- only parked/locked.

No siren on my 2000 G500.

Re: Disable Alarm

Possibly it was optioned out.  Look under the brake booster.
