Jesse Member Date registered: Aug 2017 Location: Massachusetts Vehicle(s): 2005 G55 Posts: 9 | 2005 G55 exhaust lift for protection I have a 2005 G55 that I use as a daily driver and some light duty off roading. I primarily drive the back roads of New England, but do run into some areas where I fear I may rip my exhaust off. I know, I know, the G55 is not the best choice for off road. It is what I have and I really like it, so it is what it is. Has anyone figured out how to protect the exhaust on a G55? Or replace it with something that runs closer to the vehicle? There appears to be a lot of space (several inches) between the exhaust and the body where it could be lifted up to protect it. I am not attached to the side exit tips and would even consider the more standard turn down tips. In the same idea of protection, has as anyone figured out how to put frame protection on a G55? This setup looks great, but unfortunately, it does not fit a G55. https://www.g-wagenaccessories.com/products/lwb-w463-rockslider-rock... My apologies if these questions have been asked before. I searched, but could not find good data. I won't be offended if you point me to someplace I have missed. Thanks, - Jesse [1/3/17 - edited for typos] Edited by Jesse 1/3/2018 1:44 PM

Do you have a view from the side of the truck that shows how far down the exhaust components hang? Thanks, - Jesse

I have been looking for a solution to the exhaust issue as well. Those side pipe tips got damaged easily. I’ve been trying to make my G55 as offroadable (limited use anyway) as my Disco was. This is a very helpful.

Here are a couple photos to show how low it hangs.

I would love to see if mine looks like others, but I don’t exactly seem them at the local supermarket very often. I do not tow a boat. I do pull a small Aliner camper. Separate topic, but I just bent my Curtis receiver last weekend. It came with the truck. Total junk. Tongue weight was only 250 pounds. Time to do it right. Thanks, - Jesse

When I pulled my rb's, I painted the exhaust system flat black and cut off the amg tips (mufflers are near EOL anyway). FYI...the G55 is an excellent choice for offroading!!

Did you put some type of turn down and just dump it under the truck? Any chance you have pictures? Thanks, - Jesse

I plan to turn down at the framerail. Where are the backroads that you ride? It would be great to have a New England treffen.

Both the national forest roads and the class IV roads are great areas to just drive around and explore. If you are interested in VT, you should try to sign up for the Vermont Overland Rally. I suspect it is sold out, but tickets always open up as it gets closer. PM my if you want more info. Jesse
