Steering damper 87' 300GD

Hey. Ive bought a 463 steering damper ive fitted to my 87' 300gd. I dont remember if The old damper was fitted under or on the top of the rod...

I welded on a bit of steel and drilled new holes to get it further out from the diff. 15mm out actually.

But it looks crooked when I fit it to the rod? See pics. How is it supposed to be?

The end closest to the wheel hub needs to be mounted on top of the tie rod bracket, and below the bracket at the drive shaft. See attached.

Did you also install this bracket at the diff? http://fourbyfourclub.com/W460SuspensionParts/W460SteeringShockBrac...

If you rock crawl much at all, mount the bolts so that the threads point up.  That way you won't hit the threaded part on a rock.

Re: Steering damper 87' 300GD

Sorry for the pictures. Photobucket aint working anymore.

I've welded 20mm of steel to extrnd the original bracket. Drilled new holes, 15mm further out. When i fit the tie rod end on top, the tie rod becomes tilted..? So with the position on the diff its best to fit it under the tie rod.

If i use this adapter i can probably fit the diff end higher and get the right angle, to fit the tie rod on top. But my original bracket is threaded down... its a bolt welded on a piece of steel. Not a hole to put a bolt in.

I turned both ways and it looked ok. Its a bit further down as this so it would be best to get it on top....... hmmm

Hard to imagine w/o a picture.  The basic goal is to get the shock to push/pull in the same direction as the bar.

Use the "Attach a file after posting" link at the bottom of the composing window. Needs to be less than 200 kb and 1000 pixels on the longest side.
