2003 w463 needs new transfer case

Just wondering where a good place would be to source a reman transfer case in the US? Looks like mine is shot.

thank you

RE: 2003 w463 needs new transfer case

I believe the part number for the reman unit is: 463 280 17 00 80 (463280170080). I got one at: www.mercedespartscenter.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=215720 , It even came with a new selector motor. There are other online dealers that people like as well, but I have found these guys to be very good to deal with. Not all online dealers will actually sell you a transfer case because of the size/weight and the return core issue.

Re: 2003 w463 needs new transfer case

I would want a reman unit from MB. It comes with a useful warranty. Buying on eBay or used can be dangerous as car part sellers are often unscrupulous.

Hello fellow Calgarian, if you go the dealership route, I'd purchase the part from Mercedes Country Hills, ask for Alex, great guy. Ask him for a 10% off and he might oblige you.

Cheers

Ha! You’re right. I read his profile (2001) and didn’t even pay attention to the thread title.

Re: 2003 w463 needs new transfer case

A 2001 would not be a manual transfer case, unless it was a Europa 1999 or 2000 registered as a 2001.

Which they, in fact, are. 2002 was the first year for MBUSA.

Re: 2003 w463 needs new transfer case

However, if anyone has a manual-shift t-case I may be in need of one for my 1994 G320. I think the shift fork might be broken. I wonder if I can replace it with a fork from a the VG150E electronic shift t-case.

If You mean the fork which shifts the high/low range than that´s different on the manual and E type.

Unless he's referring to a non-MBUSA truck, as mentioned in his profile. 2001 ROW G55 would have an electronic transfer case.

Thanks, I see that now that I found a parts diagram for both of them.

A4632800131 for the VG150E and A4632840501 replaced by A4632800031 is for the VG150. The picture for A4632800131 shows that it doesn't have the cup on the top for the manual shifter either.

Also appears that I have a rare-ish t-case with the .8 ratio and mechanical speedometer drive.

Re: 2003 w463 needs new transfer case

If You can´t get A4632800031 at a MB dealer in US, genuine parts offers it for about 300 euro plus 40 euro shipping, so not that crazy expensive.

Re: 2003 w463 needs new transfer case

Thanks for the help everyone, reman t case on its way. The gears were shredded and a bearing was destroyed. My truck had 23s on it when I bought it so perhaps those were the reason? Would running 35s cause premature wear on the t case ?

Re: 2003 w463 needs new transfer case

Your truck had 23” tires on it?

Can you clear up what year your truck is 2001 or 2003?

And is it a manually shifted transfer case?
