It will work fine for several days and the stop working for several days and so on. The lock mechanism if free to move and locks/unlocks manually just fine. When the actuator is not working you can hear a click inside the door which I think might be the might be a relay in the door controller, but I'm not sure about this. My theory is that the lock/unlock command is sent via the CAN buss to the door controller which in turn activates the door actuator via a relay. Does any one know if the system actually works that way or is there a direct connection to the actuator? Also, does anyone have experience with their lock actuators failing intermittently like this or do they just die and stop working when they go? I'm trying to decide if I should order and actuator before I open up the door panel (not easy in the dead of winter - may have to wait until spring). Thanks!

I didn't have any problem with locking the door, but unlocking was on and off. When it didn't work, it felt like it just didn't have enough push to open it. I've installed a new actuator and problem solved. However, when I was putting it back together I've noticed that one of the connecting rod that actually pushes up the rod to open the door wasn't clicked in to mounting hole (I wish I had taken the photo). If I were you, I'd buy a new actuator, however, I'd check all connecting rods before installing a new one. I don't think it hurts to have a spare actuator. Also, please have a few door panel retainer ready as I needed three replacement.

I replaced the actuator but stil haven't managed to get the central locking system to work. It's a real pain as I have to keep asking passengers ( my family ) to lock the doors and then I have to double check that they did lock it. Does anyone know what could cause the central lock to stop working all of a sudden?

Funny I noticed I had asked a similar question on it. Central locking is probably not the most resilient feature on the Gs. It appears I had the same problem on my previous G but I can't remember how I fixed it Edited by King_GH 3/13/2018 5:25 AM

Hi Alan, KingGH has a 95 300GD and I tought there was no central locking relay until about ´96. AFAIK everything is controled by the main accurator in the driver´s door on the the W460 and first W463s. http://www.kurth-classics.de/mercedes-g-zentralveriegelung/

I sprayed all the areas (latch, lock, behind handle, door pin) with WD40 and 2 hours later it worked again. Worth getting a new actuator just in case. Would you know the part number? Right side door. Thanks

It has been working well now since the WD40 soak. I'll keep the P/N for future reference.

Has anyone got the number for the 95 driver side? I may need to pysche myself to buy that if the WD40 method doesn't work for me.
