Wiper Nut plastic cover

My plastic cover on the wiper handle came off and the dealership thinks I should replace the whole wiper handle.

Need to see a photo to know what you’re talking about.

RE: Wiper Nut plastic cover

If you are talking about this part (below), you should find a different mechanic.  This is a trivial replacement.

Take off the wiper arm.  Pry off the old seal.  Lube up the shaft as best you can.  Push on the new seal.  Re-attach the wiper arm.  Done.

Mine probably need a redo.  Last replaced in 2003.

RE: Wiper Nut plastic cover

Sorry guys
I was posting this using IOS and had no way of resizing the image to conform so it got posted without the photo :-)

Also whilst we're at it, the wiper blades I got from MB are very noisy. I admit the weather here gets the most out of it but I didn't expected so much squeaking. They are not leaving streaks so I can't complain as they work well. I got them last summer. Should I try another brand?

Re: Wiper Nut plastic cover

Most cars sell this separately but on the G I think it comes with the arm

Re: Wiper Nut plastic cover

My guess is that MB wiper blades are from Bosch.
I recently just got some cheap Alaska branded wiper blades, and they are very silent. Alaska is a Danish brand.

RE: Wiper Nut plastic cover

Yes, that cover over the securing nut is part of the wiper arm (Item #90 in Alan's parts diagram); and they are not inexpensive to buy.

Re: Wiper Nut plastic cover

It´s all cosmetic right? Why not forget about it and rattle can the nut black?

Re: Wiper Nut plastic cover

Not cosmetic.  It forms a seal at the top of the wiper shaft.  When I got my G it had a slight leak through the cracked cover.  Replacing the cover fixed that.
