The G had a winch and this guy told me of some "marina grease" or something to protect the wire/lengthen its life. I can't for the life of me remember the name. I googled "marina grease" but did not see anything that (I think) sounded right. Anybody have their own brand preference and/or know what I am trying to remember? Thanks, Rich

Thanks, Rich Rich, do yourself a big favour and replace the winch cable with a "Plasma-Rope" you'll never look back, no rust easy to handle, great strength and above all so light that it floats on water! amzimmy

It had them stumped for awhile. At the time it was my only vehicle. I decided I could not afford to have it shipped back and forth when something like this happened. So, I sold to Russ..and he'd fix/find the problem for the new owner. I'd like to get a new diesel G if they come out in a couple of years. Rich

I got mine from Amsteel. Great product and it comes with hook, sleeve and eye, remember to change the fairlead. Look on this websites: http://www.cseoffroad.com/sywiro.html and: http://www.samsonrope.com/home/general/12strandlisting.cfm#AmSteel-... Look under splicing instruction 12 strand: http://www.samsonrope.com/home/recmarine/splicing/index.cfm Read more about: http://www.thecortlandcompanies.com/psrope/SpectraandPlasmaRopesrev... Hope you come right! amzimmy Edited by amzimmy 6/15/2006 3:42 AM

Winch rope benefits are exactly as Amzimmy, TwoDogs and Kerr have described. Although I don't have a winch on my G and I never was involved in car winching, I do know a few things about using 'Tuggers' on a Rig floor. Of all the winch issues ... safety is the most important one! I know what can go wrong when using this sort of equipment ... and it usually is not nice. Maintenance is an important issue when it comes to safety so I thought I would try to answer your initial question. Which 'marina grease' to use on winch wires? I don't know if this is the name you were looking for but this is what is used Offshore for maintaining STEEL WIRE ROPE ... Rocol is the name! Have a look here: http://www.rocol.com/lubricants/english/maintenance/wirerope/ Now, I don't know if a winch wire is built up the same as a steel wire rope but I still think that this stuff will maintain your wire. Believe me, if it is used Offshore in the Drilling business it WILL be a good product and it WILL maintain your steel wires to a safe standard. Good luck with your winching ... don't you have the diff locks Regards, NorthseaRoughneck Sorry Rich, I just noticed that you are G-less for the moment. Disregard my last comment!
