So my truck has been driven about 8k miles in the last 5.5 years and has about 185k miles on it. This is what I'm thinking to service: Any reference to fluids are also likely what was used before. In order to save my self time, I have a shop that I would likely bring it to which I used in the past, but I'm also open to recommendations on the peninsula or the SF bay area. Engine oil and filter. --> Some fancy flavor of redline or similar. Normal filter Front and rear diff fluid change --> Redline 75w-90. Last replaced 2/1/12 Transfer case fluid change --> Redline Mt-90. Last replaced 2/1/12 Coolant change. Last replaced 2/1/12 - 179,000 Brake fluid change Transmission fluid and filter. --> Recommended Transmission fluids? Bleed Diff Lockers Check swivel ball grease level --> If necessary, add half stick of grease per axle. Redline or similar. Replace air filters. Replace fuel filter. --> this was last replaced on 2/1/12. Maybe not necessary? Windshield wipers --> Any recommendations? I used to use silicone something or rather because they lasted long. Anything I'm missing? Thanks ahead of time! Edited by ewalberg 6/17/2018 4:45 PM

Welcome home! I use Redline 10W40 motor oil. Use the official MB ATF, although Harald recently posted that Shell ATF 134 is the same thing at a considerably lower price. Be careful with this fluid, as the wrong one can fornicate up your tranny. I do NOT like the Redline grease. It has a tendency to separate into a very runny fluid and a thick wax like paste. In the swivel balls I prefer the MB green grease that Sean at Eurotruck sells. Don't forget to grease your driveshafts. I like teflon wiper blades.

Are you using the same stuff in the swivel balls as in the drive shafts? Do I need to replace the Transmission Pan Gasket when replacing the Transmission Fluid filter? Assuming the pan has to be pulled to change the filter then why not, gaskets are cheap. You have part numbers for the Teflon wiper?

You have part numbers for the Teflon wiper? No, there's a difference. G-AMG can point you to the best for the drive shafts. Yes on replacing the tranny pan gasket. I like the Trico NeoForm, but it looks like that one may have been superseded by Trico Teflon Shield. Go to the Trico website to see what fits the G. It's the same as the US 2002 G.

In the above posts there is mention of wiper blades. My 2016 G550 has had both front blades leave a streak where the blade clamp holds the rubber. It is about one third of the way into the blade. A week ago I mentioned this to the service advisor and he put two new MBenz blade on the G. It was a rainy week in NC so I used the blades often. Again on the drivers side I had the streak in the same place. I was near the Benz place and stopped in. I mentioned the problem to the parts guy and he put two new wipers on the G. I might add that the wipers that were first replaced were not covered under warranty and cost $30.00. To make matters worse, I had three sets of $5 Walmart blades hanging in the basement shop. I used THe cheap blades for years on the 2002 G500 and got good service from them.

For drive shafts lube, I use MB long term grease, Part#000989635111 For Swivel ball, I use MB wheel bearing grease(Fuch Renolit 150), Part#001989345111 I've used Redline grease for swivel ball, but as Dutch mentioned above, it was much waterly and caused more seepage than MB grease. For differentials and transfer case, I've also used Redline products, but it had caused more leaks from transfer case to rear drive shaft(bad flange seal?). I am not promoting MB products nor discouraging the use of Redline products. It may be just specific to condition of my truck and may not hold true for other cars and trucks, but, MB fluids are working much better with my truck.

Plain old Multipurpose Grease is A-OK. A lot of people recommend buying one that is light colored so that you can see if the CV joint boot breaks with black grease getting mixed with what comes out around the swipe seal. The grease in the swivel ball does no lubrication of any kind. It is simply there as an outward migrating seal to prevent water and dirt from getting in contact with the wheel bearings or CV joint.
