Propeller shaft question

Hello everyone!

Been MIA for a long time..

So I think it is time to replace my propeller shaft in my G400 cdi. the play has worsened quite a bit and the rubber mount has been teared once again...

video below:

https://photos.app.goo.gl/v5CJ6KbMmZFazJVw9

Unfortunately, the truck is equipped with the same propeller shaft as in AMG models, probably due to high engine torque, part no. A4634100802.

Again unfortunately, MB only provides CV joint service kits only for the "normal" propshafts, therefore the only solution is either a new propshaft, or a CV joint kit of a third party company, which I am not keen to trust.

The bad thing is that the cost for the propshaft in MB is circa 1700euros, which is mad! The other option is to buy one propshaft from companies like https://www.kardanwelle24.de/en/gele...a-1465/#rating

or

https://www.kardanwelle.de/en/car/product/w4630802/

The first company I cannot find a lot of info for, however for the second company it seems that the have been active in shaft manufacturing for the last 100 years (!).
Nevertheless, I am still in question on whether I should trust those shafts for the truck.

Has anyone bought from subject companies? Has anyone bought any alternative shafts than the original one?

Tks in advance,
Thanos

RE: Propeller shaft question

The OE MB shaft is available for considerably less money here in the US. Add shipping to Greece, and it's probably still less than Euro 1700.

Thanks Dutch!

To be honest, I also thought buying it from the US myself, but the only thing that worries me is any potential warranty issue on the part, for which I will not be covered in Greece..

So far I have been quoted by this german Welte-group around 700ish euros, which I consider a fair price, but I am still not sure whether I should go for other than the MB part, even if it is supposedly the exact same quality part..

Re: Propeller shaft question

The other thing is that I have started to believe that my TC mounts need replacement, although visually they do not seem cracked/wasted. (circa 180k kms on the truck and the tc mounts are the factory ones..)

There are way too many vibrations on the truck; I can also feel something "loose" below the center of the truck and on top of that maybe this is the reason for the rubber boot getting ripped again.

Just an update, I received the new shaft and to my surprise it is the exact same original MB propshaft! Just with the MB part number on the rubber boot grinded down! Probably due to the fact that the factory supplies MB and does not bother producing two different rubber boots..

Now it remains to be installed and spot the difference with the old one..

RE: Propeller shaft question

I bought a shaft https://www.kardanwelle24.de/gelenkwellen-kardanwellen/original-gele... last year, also had a lot of vibrations on my G400... I very happy about it.

Regarding buying parts from USA, or any other non EU country, involves additional cots besides shipping, import tax, and VAT, in Denmark this add at leat 30% to the cost. This is not a new rule.

Now it´s time to replace the rear shaft.
