I tried the blade key but I couldn’t get lock to open. Do you you turn it left to right? Does it take some effort to turn it? Would the trunk lock work the same? If I can’t get it open is there a location I can attach jumpers without getting the hood open? Appreciate any help.

The key should turn right to unlock (at least it does on my 2000). If the key hasn't been used to unlock the doors in a long time, it may take some finesse... try jiggling gently back and forth, and, after several attempts at that, move the key a millimeter further in or further out, and keep trying (I found I was able to turn it left first once the key found the correct detente). Also, I don't remember off-hand, but on an '03, your battery is either in the rear next to the wheel arch, or under the rear passenger seats... You may be able to get the hood open w/a long-bladed screwdriver - you should be able to see the cable through the grill, and it's just a matter of pushing it at the connection near the under the center hood emblem. Again, on an 03, not sure, but you should be able to find a ground and a positive terminal somewhere.

I will continue to try with the key and if that fails I will open the hood as mentioned . Battery on an 03 is under back seat center console, but there are + - terminals at top right corner of engine bay.

When I lived in Michigan, sometimes we would heat the key with a lighter to get a cold frozen lock to turn. Maybe some heat would help along with some graphite lubricant.

I’m going to try a number of things and hope for the best. From gathering information online: - Graphite - wd 40 on outside / around - electronic toothbrush to vibrate key - slowly move back and forth And lastly PRAY! I guess because I have an 03 I might not be able to pop bonnet with the screwdriver since it has two lock points ( as per Wolfgangs in NJ). Last resort I will have a locksmith pop it open. I think with those doors it’s not really a job I want to pursue and seems difficult / an easy path towards door damage. Edited by jd1234 4/21/2021 12:31 PM
