Headrests

Hello all. I'm trying to fit headrests into my seats (1983 460) but nothing fits. I've tried headrests from a 123, a 126 and others, but they all have curved attachment rods. It seems I need the straight variety. When I run my VIN through mbclub.ru/mb/vin/index.html? it says it was shipped with S30 headrests in the front and S32 in the rear. They weren't there when I bought it. Does anyone know what would be compatible?

Re: Headrests

I ran my vin on my EPC -got the same SAs S30 & S32 - headrest part # A4709701950 front and rear. When run thru a part # to model search it came back with nothing suggesting that they were only fitted to 460 Gs - I dont know it that helps.

Re: Headrests

Do the holes line up from the 123 car headrests? If so why not have the rods straightened?

Re: Headrests

I would suggest trying to locate a car wrecker here in Norway, since there's a lot more old Gs around here. I did a search on the car wreckers assosciation's web site and I found someone that has a G for wrecking. Try to contact Grønvolds Bildemontering AS firmapost@bildemontering.no and hear if they have any headrests left from that car.

An alternative would be to get seats from another car or possibly new third-party seats. I've seen a lot of people on the norwegian forum doing that when their old seats are worn out. One guy ripped out the storage boxes under the seats and put in seats with spring mounts from a Mitsubishi Pajero.

My own Recaros are in a nice shape even though 20 years old, so apart from a rip in the fabric on the drivers seat, they are perfectly servicable. I'll get a couple of seat covers, preferably with heating built in, and that's all.

Re: Headrests

Thanks for the help. Yes the holes from the 123 headrests line up, but they only go about a third of the way in. I thought of straightening them, but then I'm not sure that I'll be able to anchor them in there anyway, and there won't be any way of adjusting them. I think the easiest way out will be to fit new seats.

RE: Headrests

Did you see the solution that I had for my worn seats? I had posted them on BW a while ago. I bought a couple of seats out of a wrecked 98 SLK. The 98's and 99 had mechanical seats as standard. With some minor modification to the rails they fit perfectly. Se Pics:

RE: Headrests

Wow Mark, that looks really good! Is yours a 460 cabrio?

Just out of curiosity ... how much did you have to pay for them seats?

Regards,

Rick

Re: Headrests

I traded them for a set of old E320 wheels that I had laying around. Would have cost around $450 for the pair. Yes Mine is a cab W460 model.

Too bad I don't have a set of old wheels laying around. Still $450 for the pair is not bad either.

I'll have a snoop around over here to see if I can find a descent pair.

Thanks!
