OM617 engine refuses to stop

When turning the ignition key to stop the engine.
It would hesitate and then stop, and sometimes refuse to stop all together.

The manual override on the fuel pump had to be engaged to get the engine to shut down.

There's a small vacuum powered actuator on top, this was on it's way out.

Diagnosed it with the Mity-vac vacuum tester, false air was seeping in and thus the engine shut down hesistation.

Anyway, off to my Merc dealer. Who had the part in stock. 30 Euro's later I was fully stopping again.

Most people try to get an engine started, sometimes the opposite can be quite annoying.

Often when the oilfilter is serviced vacuum lines are disturbed. Look in that area for a broken connection.

And dont forget that little vaccum pipe that runs up to the ignition barrel and back again, I have known that to get clogged with eenies on several trucks I have had to repair.
