Hi again friends!

Still not much time to post, but I did actually get signed up at least, so I guess that's a step in the right direction. Been a busy summer, and not letting up yet, but I had a few minutes free this morning and thought of signing up here, so here I am!

On the G front, I did finally manage to get my dual battery setup squared away complete with BP remote relay and "Priority Start" module on the starting battery. It came out pretty good, I'll have to post a pic one of these days.

The parts G is stripped down to the frame and I've got the flywheel off for re-balancing to match the 617A. Bad news on that front was my local clutch guy shook the trees with Valeo and says MB has the supply of those clutches locked up, and even with all the numbers Dai gave me (Thanks!), they could identify which parts they were, but they were not allowed to distribute them to Valeo distributors in the USA. Looks like I'll be calling Sean!

That's about all I can think of just now. I'll try to post more in th enear future.

All the best!

-Dave G.

Since you're here....

I've been meaning to ask some details of the design of your propane bottle holders at the rear of the G. I'm going for a 10lb bottle (8" diam. x 18" tall) at each side and thinking about how to mount them. The mounts need to be removable or foldable to be out of the way when the bottles are off. Was going to go off line, but thought I'd post here in case anyone else is intersted in the result.

Any suggestions?

Dave I'll get some pick and sketch tomorrow. The bottles and frame are removable, (4 bolts) However I have fitted a back plate (permanent and quite easily accessible) to support the vibrations and to strengthen the panel (quite wobbly if you don't!)

Re: Hi again friends!

Hey Dave,

Good of you to break radio silence. We were getting ready to send out the posse. Too bad you couldn't find a way to cheaper clutch parts. You will not be disappointed with the G clutch parts, they are built right and work beautifully. At least you get impressive parts for the money. A clutch for an old airhead BMW motorcycle cost about the same and are kind of pathetic compared to the G groupo.

And also you!

I enjoy your picture (they call it ava-something?) reminding us of the Graz trip. Makes me think of a nice lunch with you and your lovely wife at the top of the Schokl [sp?]

All the best,

Dave, here the picks and details of the cylinder bracket and main bracket. As you can see, the cylinder bracket is easily removable with the bottle. The bottle I am using is a 10,7 lt capacity 9" diam and 13" tall. I have made the same fitting arrangement to the trailer so that I can mount the Cylinder bracket to the trailer. However, the installation of the main bracket is permanently to the vehicle.

Hope I have been of help,

amzimmy

Re: Hi again friends!

Looks to me like that main bracket also works as an access ladder to the top. Really clever setup.

Dai, You are spot on! I actually use the right hand side as a ladder to get to my tent/roofrack, I did not mention the additional use, but you're very clever in detecting it!

Thanks much!

Simple and effective!   Just as I'd expect from you.  Thanks for sharing the details.  I'll post some pix of my own when I get to it.  I think the cylinders I have are the same size except that here they mandate a sheet metal frame work guard around the valve that adds an extra 6" or so to the height of the tank.  Shouldn't be a big deal though.  I didn't spring for aluminum tanks.  I went for the steel ones 'cause they were $40 instead of the nearly $200 for the aluminum ones.  Maybe some day.....

 Thanks again!

RE: Thanks much!

Dave, I wouldn't go for the aluminum tanks/cylinders, they develop cracks and don't last as long as a steel tank/cylinder, here we have to pressure test our aluminum tanks and they get destroyed if they find any stress/fault. (sometimes one is a bit rough with them)!
