WANTED: 463 Center Console

I'm looking for a center console for a 463. I really just need the main panel that the HVAC controls, radio and accessory buttons are in. Pretty much any condition or completeness, as long as the basic panel is there.

Anyone know of any 463's being parted out?

Thanks,
Garret

Yes I know, I'm nutz.

RE: WANTED: 463 Center Console

Mine's fine. In fact that's the problem. It's perfect and I dont' want to ruin it. I'm determined to install something in there, an LCD touch screen. To do it I'm going to make a custom panel. Basically I would like something less valuable to experiment with. And yes, the G did come with something custom installed, an Alpine Navigation system, but it was below the main console in the trinket tray in front of the main gear shift. No big impact other than the poor quality of the installation, but I ripped it out over the weekend anyway, as I did my 48 hour exploratory surgey. Wow! what a job it is taking the G dashboard apart! Erno Rubik would be proud.

Rubik console

Do yourself a favor and cut the long horizontal wood strip right behind the steering wheel where the screw it. The cut is nearly invisible and affords quicker repairs later. If you glue in the small black phillips screw into it's hole it does a great job of centering the strip ends.

RE: WANTED: 463 Center Console

Garret, there was a guy advertised in the clubgwagen site from Sanger,CA that was parting out a G500. The ad has been there awhile.

RE: WANTED: 463 Center Console

Thanks for the advice and leads. The email address on the clubwagen advertisment bounces. Anyone know who this is with the G500? or what year it is? As for that dastardly wood strip, yep, it definitely gets cut. Geez what a crazy design. Oh, does anyone happen to know the correct spline driver size and type for the steering wheel airbag assembly? a T25 is too loose, T27 too large. T26 would seem logical, but I don't have one to try.

It's a T27 for sure with a very long (70 mm) shaft. MB has a special tool number: W126.589.00.10.00. I paid US$15 for it, including shipping. You need that very long shaft to get up in there to reach the fastener.

Warning! Make sure your tool is clean and sharp; and that you seat it well - perhaps with a bith of hammer tapping - before turning it. The fasteners are in there with blue Loctite. My mechanic stripped one fastener "slot" on his first try; and we really had to work carefully to finally break it loose. They are in there very tight!

RE: T27 - Special MB Tool

I couldn't get my long T27 to seat, It was a little too long, and I probably didn't have it in good and square. The screws on mine is very tight also, I suspected it had a threadlocker compound on it, that's why I wasn't about to try it with a T25. I figure I bugger up those screws and I'm in big trouble! For $15, I'll definitely get the tool. I managed to get the center console loose just fine without completely removing the wood strip, however I'll have to take it off many more times, so best to get that strip split in two.

Thanks!

Re: WANTED: 463 Center Console

Mine appears to be walnut burl. Not worried about the wood though, just need the plastic panel underneath. Working through alternatives at the moment, may just mill out a couplete new panel. Kinda crazy, but whatever it takes!
