W460 hood differences

I notice there are two part numbers for a W460 hood. Can someone clarify what the differences are ? Do they look the same on the outside ?
Thanks, Mike

Wasn't there a heavier, reinforced option?

Re: W460 hood differences

I do not recall seeing a hood with a spare tire holder for the 460, but maybe that was once offered or at least considered as an option. Harald would know if the number actually represents a different hood. I have not check the EPC.

There might have been another hood for the miliary G, since on some models the windshield folds forward, and likely requires the hood to have special fittings.

RE: W460 hood differences

I am on the belief there was a different hood with the factory air conditioning...something about a rain deflector. The EPC shows also a "step on type" and a standard. I saw someone on clubgwagen site had 2 new hoods with different part numbers. I was more curious as to what part is the hood woukd be the 'rain deflector" as mine looks no different than any other. i guess a hood is not a hood ?
a4608802157 standard
a4608801457 rain deflector for integrated air conditioner
a4608801057 step on type

Re: W460 hood differences

Too bad there isn't an aluminum alloy type or carbon/kevlar type. The standard one on my truck has the classic dents from leaning it against the windscreen seal. It is obviously not the step on type. I can't imagine how much one of those must weigh. The standard is heavy enough as it is. I am interested in the differences too but I wonder how much a light one would cost to make?

Re: W460 hood differences

Dai,

I think they might have come with small wows in them from the factory. Like the hairlline fissures in our skulls, small hood dents seem to make the G a G. I have two (my wife says that only I can see them) and have considered using the bathroom plunger to correct them. My auto body shop tells me he can pull them out with the newest dent-be-gone technology.

In an unrelated matter, how are the grapes for this year's wine crop? I would still like to make a trip down your way this fall. I am considering driving to CA for a conference in Nov, and by then you should be crushed and in the tank.

Cheers.

Re: W460 hood differences

Yeah, the dents came with the truck and are part if its character.

The season is going very well but the workload hasn't let up at all yet. It will calm down a bit when the color change happens. It has been 7 days a week for quite a while. You are welcome anytime, but during harvest (October) I don't have much time flexibiltiy until the fruit is all delivered. We finish harvest by the end of October and then I can focus on the wine work. November is a good time to visit. The final pressing is around the first/second week of November. I will be glad when the last barrel is full and the wine is put to bed. We used to go to the southwest and explore right after harvest. Then we started making wine. What was I thinking?

Cheers,

-Dai
