RE: g wagen automatic transmissions

Sounds like low fluid level to me. You may want to double check it, sometimes it will drop after the new fluid fills all the spaces.

Re: g wagen automatic transmissions

There are two main adjustments. One is on the throttle linkage, and the other is a vaccuum actuator. After checking your fluid levels, I would chech and adjust these. Odds are, there is nothing needed internally.

Re: g wagen automatic transmissions

On the 123 chassis AT there is adjustibility of the modulator. Is that what you mean by the vacuum actuator? It is a green plastic thing that has an adjustible part that can make it shift positively (harder) or softer. This kind of adjustment might help out our Kiwi here. A small adjustment made a large change in our TD. I have a manual transmission in my G and have not even looked at an auto box G. Anyone?

Re: g wagen automatic transmissions

When checking the fluid level did you check it while the G was running? This is the proper procedure for checking the fluid level. Put the parking brake on, make sure the G is on level ground, turn the engine on, shift it through all the gears, WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING check the fluid level. Engine should be cool when checking the level.

As mentioned low levels will coause the tranny to slip.

MB Diesel Automatic Transmission Doc

Kermit, thanks for posting this. It is the best thing I have seen about this subject, obviously written by a skilled mechanic. Very cool.
