OT: Air Box

Several weeks ago, my brother and I went off-roading. When he took his Toyota 4-Runner through a small pocket of water, he sucked the water into his engine resulting in Hydro Lock! He bent two rods, and had to replace the pistons as well.

How he wants to get an air-box similar to mine. I know from experience that my air-box and filter does a great job of protecting the engine from water...

Does anyone know where I can find an aftermarket air-box with the similar water dam features built in?

Why not go for a schnorkel when he's at it? It's probably going to be easier to implement, as well as more likely to be found as an aftermarket add-on.

Yea... Well... You never really know how deep it is until you are already in to it...

RE: OT: Air Box

After wheeling 4runners and being around over guys wheeling 4runners I have found that the air box is the least of the problems. It would seem to me that the water crossing was done too fast. If you would take it slower so it will not splash into the aribox you will find that there is a computer in the rear door that controls alomost all the accessories and low and behold there are weep holes in the bottom of the door that suck in water into the interior of the door.

Okay back to the subject - you can re-rout an air-raid system to pull air from the interior (passenger seat foot well).
