W140 OWNERSHIP

Well it's been a whole week and a half since I first got my hands on my 500. I must say it's a great car! Very different to my 126 and maybe not as well built as my 124 (lets face it the 124 is one of the best built cars full stop) but an awesome car to drive (make that wollow ). It's not that optioned so I have less to worry about going wrong. No heated seats is a bummer but it does have sunroof, electric rear seat and rear sun shade (great for the kids when they are asleep on a long trip) and memory drivers seat. Not sure if any of those are standard or not for Singapore. Ah yes it also has climate air and seperate controls in the rear. Once again I have no idea if that is standard or not. Anyway I have become a huge fan of the W140 but still wouldn't dream of owning one except I know one of the main Merc parts importers into NZ. And my mechanic only works on Mercs and he is really cheap!!! Oh one last thing... I don't have to pay for the gas

RE: W140 OWNERSHIP

Hehe, paying for gas at the price it is . These cars are so good. The ones that come from singapore seem to be good qualitity. Thanks for the tip on Startec my mate broke my rearview mirror so he is going to place an order with them for that $300+ for the basic mirror WTF and thats the best price we can find for a new one! Even the guy at the dealership checked twice. LOL.

Kevin is great. Have you talked to them yet? If you do the ask for Kevin and tell him that Sean Craig said to give you a call. The main problem with Singapore cars is the wiring loom. Mine has been replaced already. My car came in the country back in '99 so all the bugs have been ironed out.

Great to hear Photoman. It appears that alot of W140's come out of Singapore, and into NZ. Your S500 looks really great.

Re: W140 OWNERSHIP

Singapore cars are much the same spec as NZ ones. They come under the 'Rest of The World' catagory so local mechanics can talk to the computers with no dramas. There are also a heap of ones out of Japan. There can be problems with later cars like the 210s and the sat nav system.

Re: W140 OWNERSHIP

well I've done 1500kms and all is going well. In fact it's just getting better as I do tend to push the 140 rather hard at times. People get a real surprise when you drag them off with 2 ton
Today I took my '66 Pontiav LeMans for a drive. Was great fun but I did feel at home once I took the big Benz out again.

RE: W140 OWNERSHIP

my element of surprise is about to end. I'm getting the exhaust done tomorrow. Removing both the mufflers after the cats and replacing them with two 3 inch high flow units.

HAHAHAHAHA, . This is good I can't stand people who load their cars up with a bunch of mods but don't touch the performance side. You will have one smooth W140.

Looking at some big brakes to. 15inch discs with 6 pot calipers
All that power and weight will need some serious pulling up!

Yea that is a good, point never thought about that, could be embarrasing otherwise. Who will you get insurance off NAC?

No way, because of my age the best I could get aside from NAC was $1400 per year!

Re: W140 OWNERSHIP

It's because we have the house and three cars with them. Makes it cheap.

Young at heart is what counts but NAC gave me 650 full cover, pricey but unless I want to drive a 1.8L shopping cart mazda..... What I really want insurance for is windscreens and things that get done over.
