yoginnaidoo Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | South African Build W126 1993 500SE(The W126 was built until 1994 in SA). The body was fairly neglected after being exported to Zimbabwe, and then re-imported into South Africa. Conversion to bypass fuel. Welded On Hub Adaptors, (To fit the W210) alloys. Removed all cr@p from the car, and started with the refurb. Original Exterior : Classic White Original Interior: Grey Leather Exterior Mouldings: Standard Grey Current Colour : MB Midnight Blue Pearlescent (I was bored) Current Interior: Grey Leather Exterior Mouldings: Colour Coded to Body Extras : Sheepskins for the Front Chairs (Cold in Winter/Scorcher in Summer), Nardi Race Wheel, AMG 16" x 8.5 (Chrome Centre/High Polish Lip/Matt Centre Caps), Custom Sound, SEL Rear Trim It is amazing as to what colour coding does to a dark coloured W126. It really 'shrinks' the car. Not sure on upload of pictures, Advice please (IMGP0063.JPG) (IMGP0060.JPG) (IMGP0061.JPG) (IMGP0062.JPG) (IMGP0068.JPG) (IMGP0072.JPG) (IMGP0072.JPG) Attachments ---------------- IMGP0063.JPG (25KB - 7 downloads) IMGP0060.JPG (24KB - 5 downloads) IMGP0061.JPG (28KB - 1 downloads) IMGP0062.JPG (20KB - 5 downloads) IMGP0068.JPG (17KB - 4 downloads) IMGP0072.JPG (20KB - 4 downloads) IMGP0072.JPG (20KB - 5 downloads)

nomad Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: South African Build W126 Welcome, welcome Very nice car with some nice mods I think it's great that the W126 was made until '94 in SA but, are there many on the roads and in good condition? Edited by nomad 9/13/2007 5:15 AM

yoginnaidoo Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: South African Build W126 Relatively speaking - many on the road - Good condition - only a handful. The fuel price in SA, coupled with the PRECEIVED high maintenance cost on these vehicles have led to the neglect and demise of many of these W126's. At coastal areas of SA, these cars were prone to rust (around the rear windscreen, the bottom of the doors, behind any exterior moulding and the hood hinge base. Of the 126's, I have owned a 280SE(see pictures), 380SE's, 420SE, 500SE and 560SEC. Of the sedans, I would rate the 380SE has being the most balanced vehicle. I compliment you on your sophisticated view of automobile dynamics. Here in America we tend always to get oversized engines, and they can throw a car off-balance, even when there has been an appropriate design/engineering response to the larger engine. My CL500 even, has too much engine, not enough car. And it's a lot of car, so I'd just say too much engine. Something of a sledgehammer compared to my E350. Yet many people like even more powerful versions. But I don't call them sophisticated (and that's being polite).
