Photo DIY- Engine Mount Replacements.

Greets,

Hmmmm, what are the chances that my E and S klasse engine mounts could fail withing a One month period, and within a thousand miles of one another.

The usual symptoms, smooth idle, until you put it into gear, then a vibration. You can "prove" the diagnosis by:

(popping open the hood, have someone apply the service AND foot brakes, all the while pointing the car in a "SAFE" DIRECTION, have the helper gently "REV" the engine on and off, all the time looking at how much Rotational "movement" there is in the engine. You will know what "excessive" is. Mine was "Rockn' and Rolln' " SEVERAL inches up and down. YEP!! BAD ENGINE MOUNTS!

I followed the WIS, and actually REGRET IT! It specifies removing the ENTIRE Engine Mount, (both the engine mount AND the portion that connects it to the
engine block. This worked FINE on the RIGHT mount, but on the LEFT, a hose prevented taking the thing out/or installing, in one piece. This required a combination "Bottom-Side" and "Top-Side" approach.

In retrospect, I would have done the job a'la W210 style, of just removing the mount, and leaving the "engine block" mount intact.

Anyway, I still had FUN (other than making a MESS with the left leaking mount!).

The usual CYA blah, blah stuff. I am not claiming any expertise. I make no bones about it, I am a novice mechanic. My projects are based on my interpretation of the WIS procedures, and/or outside sources. Do work at your own discretion.
