Is it just me, or do the rear wheels on CLKs look tiny? 
Yeah, I know they're the same size as the front wheels,
maybe the wheel cutouts need to be larger though? |

The missing roof adds bulk visually to the rest of the rear end, thus making the rear wheels look tiny.
Usually happens with darker colors, however with lighter colors, you won't run into this problem as much. |

Hmm... this photo would seem to bear out your observation a bit.  Still I think the wheels/cutouts should be larger, à la Chrysler... |

I think the beltline on the coupe actually starts to swing downward a bit toward the rear? That definitely helps diminish the apparent mass "big butt" effect of the cabrio. I've read on Edmunds (I think) that that effect is typical of all convertibles/retractables which have concealed tops when down...the bulk hides the apparatus, so to speak..
And that designers are working on it... supposedly the SAAB was one of the worst offenders, visually speaking.... |

Oh yeah, SAAB nailed making it ugly.
When you say cutouts should be larger, as in making the wheel wells actually larger, or S-Class style fenders?
Making them bigger will only make the wheels look even smaller, IMO. Only way to make them look big, is to actually get big wheels. |

I mean look, part of it's the low roofline/high beltline thing, but a lot of it is the big wheels/wheel cutouts..  Where's iNeon??  |

I don't look at new MBs-- There's no reason to look at them. When we saw the new S-Class, we saw the next E-Class and the next C-Class. The new cars just aren't different enough. It's almost as if the E is a 7:8 scale S and the C is a 7:8 E.
This coupe is the only thing they've got that I even remotely like, and I liked the w208 better than this.
Everyone always gets mad when I draw parallels, but you know what-- If I want to look at a car that looks like a scared cat in heat(aka: one big arch with a short decklid and low to high beltline) I'll look in the driveway at leon. |

What designo color is that Marsden?
I've been eyeing a few designo S-Classes on eBay. Both W221 and W220. I'm also looking at how the depreciation pattern on both are doing, so I can plan on buying one ASAP.  |

There's no reason for me to dream of these things anymore. I'm past that part.
Focusing more on the things that are attainable by normal folks is a much better thing. I'll never have an SL, nor will I ever have a w208 or a w209-- not even a C-Class.
I'm a Dodge person; pretending to be a Mercedes one isn't working anymore. They're fine automobiles-- the finest I've ever had the pleasure of owning, driving or maintaining-- But this Dodge boy is tapped out.
