AsianML Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | SL73 AMG How many were made? Is this the biggest engine AMG have made to date? Is the 7.3 a modified version of another, like how the 55 AMG engines were just modified 500 engines?

Don't they use the 7.3 AMG engine on the Pagani Zonda. Brabus did a 7.3 as well and put it in their own version of the SL 73 (R 129), as well as the S 73 (W140)

I always knew the Zonda had a Mercedes 7.3, but never made the connection between the two. That would be amazing if the same engine you got in an older roadster, so also got in a new supercar. And then you could race the 2 against each other, although the Zonda would win, because it is lighter. Still, who doesn't want an SL 73 AMG?

It can't touch the W140. (600_1988.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 600_1988.jpg (69KB - 24 downloads)

Interesting. That is interesting that the Zonda's engine is off an R203's engine. Why didn't they just use the 7.3, and just tune it up a little bit?

Is the 7.3 a modified version of another, like how the 55 AMG engines were just modified 500 engines? 42 SL73 AMG cars were built from 1999-2001. The SL73 AMG engine (M120.990) is an AMG-modified version of the 6,0L V12 of the SL600 (M120.983). The 7,3 Litre V12 AMG engine is still used (in modified form with 555-650hp - changed intake/exhaust) in the Pagani Zonda S 7.3, Zonda Roadster, Zonda F, Zonda F Roadster and Zonda F Clubsport cars. The new coming Zonda R will use another engine because the 7.3 engines are not available in big numbers anymore.
