Finally....

Finally made it happen. And found pretty much what I wanted

Yes I finally have it! And I'm insanely happy with it so far. Probably the biggest surprise is how big it is, compared to the E. It's so much bigger than it looks in photos! I could never drive an S-Class! Also, the E had an incredibly fleet, supple feeling to its suspension while this car is clearly heavier. A little more force, a little less finesse. The additional power of the V-8 is just about spoken for by the extra weight (as neon's calculations showed us), but those who know me know I'm not one for punching the pedal anyway. So far I have driven it just over 100 miles. Achieved 28.8mpg on the highway which is much better than I was fearing! Give me time, I'll get it up to 30

It took several days, but I ended up finding two different special-order Bordeaux Red/Java Leather examples to choose from, so naturally I took the one with fewer miles The factory warranty runs out late next year, so wish me luck and I definitely welcome advice on purchasing the MBUSA extended warranty. I plan on keeping this car for a good while; however I've said that before

One good thing is that since I've driven an E-Class for the last two years, most of the systems and controls are already familiar. And where they differ, in most cases, the CL is better OTOH, I haven't figured out how to use the seat massaging function properly yet. At any rate, the seat controls are fun to play with if you're stuck in traffic and feeling bored. There are about 25 different settings I think

Congrats Marsden!! Looks great and it still shines beautifully.

lol, it took me a long time to find a Bordeaux/Java S500 for you and it was 4Matic, you found this in almost no time.

"Still shines beautifully"

Come, my child; step into the real world. PLEASE.

A car costing well into the $80k range 3 years ago ought to shine beautifully-- well into the decade-and-a-half mark, even.

The real question is: does it have any blank switches?

RE: Finally....

haha... I made sure to get symmetrical switches... if you have parktronic you get an asymmetrical layout, as in the CL600 and CL65, believe it or not..

RE: Finally....

In a perfect world, I'd have the time and/or money to fill the cracks on Shlomo's dash and have a blue vinyl cover sewn to cover the filler up.

Alas-- my sewing skills aren't good enough to make a frenched-seam, and likewise; my sewing machine is not good enough to sew through vinyl.

I'm assuming you just make a chain stitch to sew the two panels together, and then sew the seam-allowances to their respective panels to get that type of seam?

RE: Finally....

I figured out the pulse/massage feature on this last trip.

It's way cool. I mean, it's a bit of a gimmick but I love it anyway.

Actually does help your back when you've been sitting for awhile.

She's a beauty for sure. The size is one of the reasons I didn't get one in the end. It's not until you are walking around it that you get a feel for it's presence. Lovely!

Re: Finally....

Awesome colour! I begged my wife to get this colour combo, but she has some wierd thing for white with the tan interior.

Congrats!

You do realize it is going to be very quiet over here in the 215 forum. Come on over to the 211 when you are bored.
