I've been going with the max pressure on the rears, and lowered psi in the fronts. As per the fuel door. No problems. The suspension can handle the road, no need to "soften" up.
A recent answer in Click & Clack's article dealt with this question. They mentioned that tires will not burst below 200 psi. Forget whom they consulted.
Just ask Firestone and Ford about under inflating tires.

They don't necessarily burst per se, but they will come unseated from the wheel rims. They are also vastly more prone to blowouts. Follow the Mercedes-Benz recommendations. |

AsianML - 6/22/2006 7:56 PM I think we have the same OEM tire size. It's just that some tires are made differently, and require different PSI. Nah, for same size use same pressure. There aren't any construction differences significant enough to suggest different pressures. There does not exist a tire with a pressure recommendation molded onto the sidewall. This is simply the never-exceed maximum pressure for that tire, which is NEVER EVER the recommended running pressure. |
