new rims

I'm new to this mercedes world and have a question about rims. I want to give my 81 300 SD an updated look with 17" or 18" rims. Will any modern set of rims fit???

RE: new rims

I ran into the same issue with my 1980 450 too. It's difficult to find a nice-looking wheel that will fit that chassis. In fact, you probably won't find an ugly one that will fit too. But for the interest of necessity, I'll throw this out. Look for a wheel with a 5X112 bolt patter and around 7 -8 inches wide. I spoke to a couple of different tire dealers (including tire rack), and the consensus was to keep it no more than 18 X 8 on the rims. I think this is probably still pushing it given the softer suspension on the older 116's. You also have to watch the offset for the width as well. I found a set of AMG Monobloc replicas on Craigslist for a very good price. The seller is even the local chapter president of the MBZ Club. He had them on his 560 SEC and they looked great. I'm waiting to get tires on it and see how they look on mine. They're 17 X 8 and should fit just fine. If not, I'll re-sell them.

Hope this helps.
