My only worry is getting the level right after changing it as I do not have the Dipstick, I have seen diagrams on how they are made but not sure if it is suitable for the W220.

The dipstick is basically a flexible rod (think lawnmower throttle cable - a Bowden cable) that s inserted until it hits the bottom of the transmission oil pan, then withdrawn and checked. The ATF level should be not less than 10mm and not more than 20mm from the bottom of the pan at room temperature (77 deg F). The ATF level should be not less than 55 mm and not more than 65mm from the bottom of the pan at operating temperature (176 deg F). There are a couple of non-dealer, but Mercedes-approved, fluids available in the USA. One is "Shell ATF 134".
