Under engine cover OM603

Hello all diesel owners. I am Oldbeaver, just becoming a member of the Mercedes Fórum Site.

My car is a 1993 Mercedes 300d turbo sedan, of which I am attaching a picture.

I recently acquire it, and discovered it has not the undertray (under engine) cover, and would like to make one, as they are very difficult to find.

There are to options to consider: a metal one or a plastic one. I am prefering the plastic one due to less weight, and I will add a foam for more noise reduction.

Do some of the more informed members have the dimensions of the under cover?

Looking forward to any help,

Oldbeaver

Personally I would not replace it. The engine will remain cooler without it. Also if the engine begins to leak a little oil you will know it.

RE: Under engine cover OM603

Ok, thank you for yr suggestion.

Well, fortunately, my car is has no spill, and if it does, I will know cause of the aluminium clear foil I put there. I found and installed a metal undertray, and cover ir with a noise isolation material, with aluminium facing up. Now, I will cover the second part that is not sealed or covered, cause the engine undertray cover is short. There is a space between the engine under cover and the cabin, which is totally open. I will make a cover with noise isolation and will leave a window for the hot air to escape under the car.

Best,

Re: Under engine cover OM603

I have such a metal 'bash plate' in my garage. Came off one of my W124 OM603's that I broke up recently (engine/gearbox going into my G 460 one of these days.)

Personally liked the sound of the motor enough not to replace the broken cd player let alone sound proof anything under engine.

Regards
