I've been looking at a replacement for the small diesel commuter. A 16 year old fairly troublefree BMW turbo diesel. And have read quite a few major mishaps with the BMW swirl flaps in the intake collector. Do the current Mercedes CDI engines have these horrible flaps in the intake system? Haven't read any posts about the subject, so I'm guessing not or they aren't creating any problems.

But after reading about BMW's intake collectors full of black egr ooze and then flaps breaking of and going into the cylinders. Well it has made me wonder if a modern diesel is the way forward for my future small commuter. On the other hand, I haven't read any horror stories about the mercedes diesels with flaps. They just collect the black ooze, but no stories of flaps going into the cylinders. Do bluetec engines still have EGR systems loading the intakes with black ooze? Or am I asking for future info??

The linkage seems to give more problems at about 200000 km (160000 miles). The only solution at the moment seems to be the replacement of the complete intake manifold
