Found a 2001 S430

It has 92,000 miles. Checked CarFax and it's clean except one thing: It failed emissions test in June of '06 (RED FLAG!). It also was in the shop for 'electrical system' repairs at 19,000 miles and again at 32,000. No further records of electrical problems. I know these cars are notorious for electrical problems. Opinions please?

I have no idea. I just know I won't touch it with a 50 1/2 foot pole. Just too iffy.

Well, I doubt you will find a 220 without a record for a electrical problem or two............
The vehicle as you know could have failed emissions test for many reasons, even if a technician erased all the codes or memory in the control units in the vehicle for any reason the vehicle would fail a emissions test if it was not driven enough before the test...(drive cycles) I would try to obtain a "VMI"(vehicle master inquiry) from a dealer on the vehicle/have the dealer inspect it. A couple main things to look for on a 220 would be have the front shock towers been updated ? air suspension compressor and relay been replaced ? Instrument cluster been replaced ? You could also ask the dealer to print you the service record from the vehicles instrument cluster this would give you the mileages that the service's were performed.
