Hello, so this is from a Benzworld thread but nobody seems to know what the R16/1 resistor looks like. http://www.2phast.com/190E/performance.htm i was going to try it but i want to be sure i have the right piece. So im curious, does anyone know if the piece in the second pic is the resistor or something else?

Hi.
Look for that resistor on driver side - break servo compartment - look square small plug.
Inside that plug is resistor - I not remember 220 or 270 ohms.
I have original European switch - can select for gas octane - mean advance trimming or retards.
This resistor can be hidden under fuse box - is short loose cable with plug.
Tomorrow I can make photo how look European version

What you have shown in the picture is the resistor for changing some ECU parameters for mixture setting. On European cars you get a round trim-pot switch with 7 different positions. Each position corresponds to a different value. Originally the pot is set to 1 and has a seal.
Position 1: Factory Setting
Postion 2: Slightly rough idle after a cold start
Position 3: Very rough idle after a cold start
Postion 4: Rough idle during engine warm-up.
Postion 5: Bad accelaration when engine is cold.
Position 6: Bad accelaration during engine warm-up.
Postion 7: Bad accelaration at all engine temperatures.
I will have to take mine apart and measure values of all 7 resistors and post them.
The resitor for setting ignition timing is on the other side of the engine, on driver's side. |

My E320 (124 series) has a multi-turn pot and I found the best setting to be +-820 ohms I have no idea what the original setting was.. But this is on the other side (right side from drivers seat) of the vehicle, and I'm sure the item shown in the picture is not the adjustment we are talking about. |

Are you talking about the octane selector on the driver's side of the engine bay, near the ABS unit? It still is a 7 position trim-switch. Mine has the markings S and N, standing for Super(>=95 RON) and Normal (>=92) among the numbers as well. Depending on the exact ignition system S and N correspond to positions 3 and 5 or 4 and 6 respectively.
This is for setting ignition advance.
But what My260 has shown on the picture is not the octane selector, it is the mixture setting resistor, which in his case is not a trimpot switch, but rather only one resitor whose value corresponds to factory settings.

I'm talking about a Bosch Trim pot, just behind the ECU connector and in front of the brake booster (RHD), its a 1k ohm multi turn trim pot. See the picture

Subsonic are you talking about the selector in my picture, as you can see, mine is factory sealed and set to pos 1 ?!?!?!? What would the positions represent?
