| When and what model was your first Mercedes?
Just curious how loyal the owners on this board are to the marque and what drove you to make the switch from whatever you were driving previously. I'm assuming most on this forum are auto enthusiasts in one form or another.
This is my first Mercedes. I had a Ford Lightning before my G and kept a Honda CRV as a daily/winter. She made 407 rwhp / 510 ft-lbs of torque before I sold her to a fellow from Maryland last summer. My family, particularly my father, has owned nothing but MB cars since our first, a 1981 240D. He purchased it in the late 80s or early 90s - so I guess that's when our family's obsession began. He currently drives an S-Class and my mom puts around in an ML. Coincidentally, my girlfriend's family has matching MB's as mine, except the G (which I wish I could change!). I'm hoping we can get her into a C350 4Matic sometime next spring.
I made the switch after graduating college. I wanted a car that suited a professional (albeit a young one) and chose the G for its practicality, looks, history, and of course, offroad prowess.

First MB was a 1973 280SE 4.5 purchased in October 1972. Next one was a 1984 280GE purchased in August 1984. Next one was/is the 2000 G500 purchased in early 2002. Next was/is a 2007 ML320CDI purchased in December 2007. |

1974 240D, -1987 230GE,- 2002 G500 (black),- 2000 E320 4matic wagon, 2002 G500V silver. Still have the 230GE and silver G500. I just May buy back the e320 wagon from my friend who now has it. |

My first MB was an AMG 300E -86 that I bought end of 1986, my first G was a 280GE -90 that I bought end of 1990.
I have also had a few Mini and Porsche and still have one of each, pretty loyal to my brands it seems...  |

'98 ML320 (leased), '02 G500, '80 280GE. Still have the 500 with 82,000 miles. Not sure if the GE has 74,000, 136,000 or 189,000 miles (converted from KM). I hope the 500 is in good shape in the year 2029 ... |

In order of acquisition:
1982 300D turbo diesel (given to me by my parents circa 1995 when they were done with it)
1990 500SL (the last SL of the old school battleship-build-quality, and still my favorite looking SL, besides the original Gullwing)
1986 190E 2.3-16 (fantastic car, still more sporty than any of the current AMG cars IMHO; I will probably buy another one eventually)
1963 404 UNIMOG (ex-firetruck, mainly bought for its crawler gear set)
1964 404 UNIMOG (ex-troop-carrier, being built and converted to an OM617 diesel from the 300GD)
1980 300GD (being restored and will receive a crated OM617A turbo diesel engine)
We've been a Mercedes "family" forever. Both sisters previously owned C230 Sport hatchbacks and parents currently own a 2001 CLK55 AMG and a 2006 ML350. However, I admit I have "dabbled" in Toyota Land Cruisers (three 80 Series and a 100 Series), and in fact they are still my first love in off-road vehicles, despite my current inventory of Mercedes trucks...
