Re: Economy

well, If your uncle is getting an S280,S320, or S420, his fuel economy will probably be better than the S500.

My S500 gets about 11-13 Miles Per Gallon. Which is about 320 miles per tank, but since you are in the UK, it will cost more money for fuel for you, unless you drive it as a sunday car, but not as a daily driver.

However, if your uncle can afford gas, and a W140, I say Go For It!

yup. they had a 300SD as well as an S350.

92-93 = 300 SD

94-95 = S 350

How was the diesel engine in your S350 questwest? I have heard it is unreliable, or something like that...

o no it was very reliable, just not up to its task of puling the weight of a very large vehicle with five occupants, so some of them got blown

RE: Economy

With the way gas is at the moment unless you want blinding speed I suggest that you go for a 320. However a 420 if you can find it is a good compromise betweent the 320 and the 500. The 320 engines seem to develop a head gasket problem that can be expensive to fix when it goes. What ever engine size they are great cars.

Re: Economy

Real world example (well, California example, anyway)
1995 S 320 SWB, 75k miles. 91 octane, 26 imperial gallon tank. I just filled it after travelling 504 miles in mixed highway and city driving with 23+ gallons. Averaged 22 miles to the gallon. And yes, I drive like a grandpa, as my wife says. Besides, the 320 doesn't inspire aggressive driving-it's definitely a cruiser.
Overall, I am impressed with the range and the mileage considering the weight of the car plus my 260+ lbs.

RE: Economy

I still have a 4 speed so I think it may be a 95? The last year for a 4 speed? It still has the yellow oilon the outside. The car it came from only had 80,000km on it.
