G-AMG G-Class DIY Host Date registered: May 2006 Location: South Texas Vehicle(s): '04 G55, '80 280GE, '99 S420, '98 E320, 2011 E350 | Photo DIY: Lower Control Arm Bushings R/R Greets. Since my findings last week (Yucky, Trashed-Looking LCA Bushings, along with my previous 55mph vibration), I opted to proceed with LCA Bushing Renewal. Please Note!- This is not exactly per WIS, which, technically specifies REMOVING the entire LCA, which requires several extra steps (of which they tell me are time-consuming steps). Since this "abbreviated" procedure is commonly done in shops, I thought I would not completely remove the LCA. Obviously, of UTMOST IMPORTANCE!!! is SAFETY, SAFETY SAFETY!!! These Springs can KILL you in the Blink of an Eye... Sooooo, If you DON'T have the correct and safe tools to do the job... PLEASE don't do it!! I will refer you to this Klann Website for a "Tool Video Porn" Explanation of HOW-TO use the KL-0025 Spring Compressor (Which is actually what M-B Uses as Tool Numbers 202589013100-Spindle, and 202589146300-Plates) http://www.klann-online.de/Englisch/Filme/KL-0021.html I know you can't see it on the Video or in my Pics... but Place the "NOTCHED" portion of the Plate INWARDS Towards the Car. Just like in the video, you place the upper plate as HIGH up as you can, then insert the Spindle and Engage it into the Grooves of the Upper plate, then Rotate the plate Clockwise, to get it as far up as possible. You want 7 to 8 Spring "Loops" in between the Plates... Having the Springs Still on the Vehicle allowed use of its power to aid in Lowering and Raising the LCA Joints. The only "hard" part of the job was trying to wrestle the LCA Joints back into place. For this, I would strongly recommend having Two Pry Bars for this. I'm not quite sure if I was wise going with the Autohaus AZ "Meyle HD" Versions of the Bushings. One of the "Pro's" on the Forum said he prefers the HD products over stock. My "apprehension" started when I received the Package... and the boxes said "Made in Thailand"... Hmmmmm Although it said "Quality Control Check Meyle", I wonder. The Rubber to Metal junctions are somewhat "Irregular", and not super clean finish... And the Hardware??? Boy,,,, the Nuts were WAY below the quality of the OEM MB Nuts and Bolts... SOOO, I bagged them, and went to buy the MB OEM Hardware. Hopefully the "Made in Thailand" Specials will last me the 150,000 miles the OEM Bushings did... Anyway, on the the post..
