Marsden Classic MB Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: Capital City USA Vehicle(s): Mercedes-Benz | 33.7 MPG in E350 Just completed a three-hour highway trip and managed a new record in the E. 33.0 MPG with an average speed of 70mph and 33.7 (my highest ever) with an average speed of 67mph. I'm stoked! Was chiefly on I-81--very hilly country-- with a ton of tractor-trailers and tandems to navigate around, and my average would be better still if I hadn't stopped for gas (ironically enough..) ... The neat thing is that the average kept creeping upward throughout the entire trip. So one can assume the car is capable of 34 or 35 MPG which means I really didn't need that CDI after all!
PS: I still don't know how to reset my trip odometer PPS: It's really dangerous taking photos of your instrument panel in heavy traffic.

At what mileage is a car fully broken-in, I wonder?

So far my mom has a lead foot in her E350, the other day when I drove it the thing said 19 mpg, but the car only has 2,3XX miles on it so far so I am sure the low MPG is due to the engine being so new. Heck I get 16 mpg in my ML and have gotten 18 when I try and drive slow which isnt to often lol. Also do you have the ipod kit? I cant figure it out it seems to be very very quiet I have the volume up all the way on the ipod but that doesnt matter since it goes into the dock connector. I have to turn the volume almost all the way up to get decent sound, the radio/cd's come in very loud. Btw the car has the HK logic 7.1 system. Edited by AndrewAZ 6/2/2006 1:13 AM

Marsden Classic MB Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: Capital City USA Vehicle(s): Mercedes-Benz | RE: 33.7 MPG in E350 BTW, I'm not able to get anywhere near this mileage anymore Is it because it's winter? I notice the ambient temp was right up there before... But...cold-air induction is supposed to assist efficiency, no? Or is it just power. Lately I struggle to get 29-30mpg on the highway, and I'm majorly pissed Have about 8300 miles now, so I really don't think it's about

Marsden Classic MB Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: Capital City USA Vehicle(s): Mercedes-Benz | RE: 33.7 MPG in E350 "In winter, colder air means denser air -- more molecules per cubic foot. At any specific throttle setting or opening, the same number of cubic feet of air, but containing more air molecules, will enter the engine. The computer will provide more fuel to create the proper air/fuel ratio at that moment. This is a bit more subtle, since "more air/more fuel" produces more power, so you may be able to operate at a slightly lower throttle setting -- sort of rebalancing the equation."

As for the trip reset, put your dash view in the view with just the temperature and speed and hold in the reset button (left side of instrument panel on trim panel) for 3 seconds. This is the same way to reset your mileage computer when you are in that view.

Marsden Classic MB Date registered: Apr 2006 Location: Capital City USA Vehicle(s): Mercedes-Benz | RE: 33.7 MPG in E350 Actually, yes. It's stupid like that. Passengers always ask, "Where is the clock?" But, as I can't tell time anyway, who really cares?

iNeon Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | RE: 33.7 MPG in E350 You'll realize in 10 years just how meaningless a tachometer is in an automatic luxury car. A big, beautiful analogue clock is much more useful. In fact-- I've, quite literally, gotten in the neon after driving the Mercedes-Benz a tank or two and looked at it's tachometer sideways and had to remind myself: "oh, duh!! It's NOT a clock!!" It's hard to tell the time when it only goes to 8 and you can't find the short hand!!! *EDIT* I'd like it if they'd bring back full instrumentation, and lose the stupid tachometer. Oil pressure and Voltage are more important. A tachometer doesn't tell you anything about how the car is running, and if it does... You're already in trouble.
