Problems with my 78'300D

Hello, well as you may know I have purchased a 1978 300D non-turbo off of Ebay, about a month ago. Now so far here is my list of problems with the car I having trouble to evaluate. 1. Climate Control: I have the old style climate control,a nd nothing works, but the defroster. I have no clue what the problem is. Please help me! 2.Cab Lights: When I turn on the lights at night, only the exterior lights work, but the inside lights doesn't work at all. I have chacked the fuses and there all fine. Its pitch black inside. The past owner had tried to put a new radio in and all I get is a radio hanging out with a bunch of wires, and a lot of fuses in the glovebox, so I don't know if he screwed up with something 3.Uhhhhh.... I forgot, Ill be back with the 3rd problem... Oh here are some pics of my 300D (Charlie Brown)!

Gosh, DB, why do you think you'll get a different answer from the SAME people?

Solutions:

1. Climate control amplifier needs to be replaced. This is a little black box behind the glovebox. If that doesn't fix it, the servo is likely hosed.

2. You need a new dash light resistor that goes on the back of the gauge cluster.

3. Replace or adjust the vacuum modulator valve on the side of the transmission.

OMG! I totaly forgot to check that thread out! OMG! I'm I can't believe that! Thanks Flyboyike!

There number 3

3. This is the most scariest problem I have with the car. The Transmission is eratic when it shifts into gears. The car will get to its speed, but the way the gears change doesn't sound right and feel right. Im not sure if it has to do with the vacuum. The transmission is playing games, because sometimes its ruff or smooth, depends how throtle is pressed

Well-- Here is a question I have always wondered about, and it fits this thread=)

How challenging is it to just pull the dash and install manual controls for the old troublesome climate control system? 240Ds are common at pull a part type places and they all(?) came with the easier manual controls. Could it be done?

Cheaper than a servo replacement?

It can be done, but by the time you get done replacing all that stuff, it probably will be no cheaper than a servo.

RE: Problems with my 78'300D

I would like to get chrome bundts in the near future, problem is that there to much money. I love the color on "Charlie Brown"! The car looks very luxrious, with a the nice brown paint, the tan interior and electric windows, sunroof, climate control, a radio, all wood is good, and the car runs fine!
