GPS NAV

After a recent discussion with 1996_S500 on the usefulness of the old CELL space in teh W140 I want GPS nav with a screen there, what exactly do you need. I will not do it unless I can get the stuff real cheap as it is not that needed.

Here is a base unit I found:

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=59383302&permanent=...

I think it is an older unit but assuming that all the stuff is with it as the seller says less the screen tehn all I should need is a map CD and a screen correct? Also can this operate independent of the headunit if it needs to because I don't want to buy a new stereo?

RE: GPS NAV

Sounds like it is going to be really cool NZ Benz.

Although, I don't think I have seen people do it the way for a GPS,

People have done it this way, but not near the phone area. That would cool if you could make it work.

And $10 for that unit sounds like a good deal. Is it?

Did some more research on the unit and it seems that this is one of the japanese ones for shich there is no software for NZ, I have $1 on t and I am told it plays DVDS so it may be good for something. The ones that work here don't seem to be the ones with the independent screen, but I will keep looking.

Good luck. Hopefully you can get one that works. Then, your car will be REALLY REALLY nice.

I don't think it is something that I will actively go after doing, but if something comes along and the price is right then I will, but it would be cool to have.

Re: GPS NAV

why not look in to a Mercedes-Benz APS 30 Navigation or the Becker Cascade 7944 http://tinyurl.com/rp1q.

Both of these radios will give you a nice factory look.

If the link worked I would. Also I just replaced and had my stereo rewired. I'm not actively looking for GPS, I doubt I would ever use it. I just think it would be a neat thing to have.

The Becker Grand Prix 7990 doesn't have nav. But it still has bluetooth phone capabilities and ipod integration capabilities.

That's cool. NZ Benz' W140 is so cool. It already has the iPod integration installed. Right NZ Benz?

Yup, it's only a USB jack but it is quite cool. I even took some photos with the camera on my clie the other day but cannot get them to upload to photobucket properly.
