Whats up guys

New Member here,

I am from Tiverton Rhode Island, and I have a W115 1976 300D. Before this I had a W123 240D manual.

Love these old cars, nothing like them. Here's a few pics of the beast:

RE: Whats up guys

Thanks guys, warm welcome is appreciated. She's clean, yes, but no grage queen! These cars are meant to be DRIVEN, even if they are thirty years old. I hate cars that are garage queens..they were created to be DRIVEN.

I used to know a guy in my town who bought an old Ferrari 308GTS QuattroValvole who used to use it for commuting, everyday chores, whatever he felt like. Thats my type of car, none of this keep it locked up stuff.

RE: Whats up guys

Yes, he ended up smashing it into a telephone pole after a night of drinking, but hey I guess DUI fits under the "daily driving" category for this guy. In any case, a nice care ruined.

At any rate, I just really don't like the idea of people having beautiful old cars and never taking them out. They are TRANSPORTATION. I saw a guy driving a 300SL, not the gullwing, in Newport Rhode Island after the concours there. Gave him the thumbs up from the W115. When you take a classic out, everyone gets to appreciate it. I always love the questions if I am just parking my car in front of Quiznos or something. Its cool when people drive these cars often. Keeps them in good shape, because it guarantees that you'll repair the stuff since you have to drive it everyday.

RE: Whats up guys

Welcome aboard. Old money is like that. I ran into a guy last year at Newport Shipyard/marina. He drove his Rolls Royce Corniche Convertible out onto the pier and parked under a cable notorious for seagulls. The car was dirty and the guy was smoking the biggest stogey I've ever seen. I told him, better put the top up if your parking there and he said, "What the f, that's what I pay the bloody help for, cleanin' up bird sh*t."

RE: Whats up guys

Heh, I am by no means old money..hell I am only 20!

But I hate to see classics barned up to rot. I like to let this OM617 purrr so everyone can appreciate it. I love driving my car around, even if its completely random. Gottlieb, Karl, and the boys didn't design these cars to sit in garages...

Especially with diesels, I feel that they need to be run to keep them in good working order. Keep those gaskets soaked with oil, and keep those mechanical bits from getting too rested!

You need to exercise your car to keep it in top shape, not let it be a "garage potato"

I agree the cars should be driven. It's like putting a thoroughbred out to stud with out ever being in a race.
