Looking at ideas at the moment. I'm seeing my painter on Friday. At the very least get the bumpers colour coded.

Re: Photoshop W140

yes... owing 140s the list just gets longer and longer ha ha ha. Oh well.
Just as well we have a 124 that just keeps on going and going and going.
Dear I say it but it's a real Merc (photoman hides under desk). I had someone the other day saying that my 140 was the last of the real Mercs.... hmmmm. I said no it's the first of the bad ones. You should of seen the look on his face. Still it's true really. Mind you it's a long way to come from the 124s and 126s so the 140 isn't that bad compared to other cars. Just not as good as the 80s Mercs. But what car in the world is?

My recent gearbox drama aside I think the motors and gearbox are pretty good, its just all the little gizmos that go in teh car. Mine is running really well touch wood. I love the car to bits and would not have any other, I feel like a king in it, the drive from Dunedin to Christchurch was sooo fun. I managed to do it in just over 4 hours including a stop on the way. I think the comment about the W140 being the last good MB is kinda right in the sense of teh build qualitity and the materials. I mean newer MB have more gadgets and stuff but at teh end of the day it feels very plastic (at least the 220 I have seen and been in) I think the W140 kind of got lost in teh middle ending up with very good (in fact amazing) build qualitity and very average reliability.

Just as an aside alot of people have always had an opinion of MB here in NZ even before the 126 and 140 that Mb are very unreliable. When I got the car back in Dec I went to see my friend who is not from a poor family but they are not that well off, I have been friends with the guy for as long as I can think. Anyway he says to his Mum: "guess what Nathan got a new car, a big merc" his Mum says the usual wow that nice etc. Then the guys grandma pipes in and says is it old or new? I say "Well its a 1993 so I don't really know what to call old" (To my mind the W140 is not a very old car) The grandma then says (in a haughty voice) "Oh, well then its an old mercedes, I hope you can afford to fix it, they are very unreliable" I said, "you didn't like yours when you had one?" (Knowing full well no-one in that family has ever been able to afford one) She says: "Oh no not me I never had one" I thought thats right you stupid bitch, you know it all, don't talk down to me when you drive a toyota that is only a year or two younger than mine.

So there has always been that type of thing in peoples heads, not to mention how arrogant and snobbish some of these people are. Also on my drive the other day I see that alot of our big rigs here are now MB they must have to be pretty reliable right?

yea, I agree. The W140 is a very good car, even though it might be kinda unreliable sometimes. But still, the quality is very very good, and much better than the 220.

Re: Photoshop W140

I love my 140... but it not built any near as well as my 126s that I have owned nor my 124 that I still own. My Merc mechanic also reckons that the 140 is not of the same quality. He actually warned me against buying one ha ha ha. He did check mine out and said it was a very good one. In NZ I think it is actually the opposite to what yousay NZBENZ. People have been use to reliable Mercs and are buying newer ones and are very disapointed. Ask mechanics and spare parts guys what Mercs they reckon are the best. You'll find that the 140 is one of the most worked on cars. It simply is not bulit as well as the 126 it replaced.... mind you neither is any modern Merc.

Give me any MB over other brands, nothing is like seeing that pointed star on the bonnet when you drive around town.

RE: Photoshop W140

Sorry to take this more OT
I can't say much about the 140 as my experience with it is limited, though from the cars I've had close up time with I've been surprised at the good build quality

Also while the W126 is generally of great quality, I personally regard the W116 S-Class as the ultimate in quality and solidity
It really is one of thee most overlooked and under-appreciated Benzes ever
I think it had a greater effect on MB's image as a quality car builder than the W126 ever did, no one-eyed 126 owner will agree with that of course
My 126 500SEL is in pretty good shape but when I got it, I thought it flimsy and cheap compared to all three W116's I've owned
For one, you simply can't beat the incredibly thick doors that really are like safe doors, they're truly built like tanks, except for the rusty one's

I tell you the best thing the W140 has over the W126 is the level of luxury it has, which really is in a different league to the 126, even the later model year one's, oh and the M120 engine is good too

I think I'm a little late. But I think this looks the best. The bumper, the tint, the rims. PERFECT!

Yup, maybe a chrome grill would make it look even nicer, but yeah, that is perfect.
