Wipers sdrawkcabssA

Anyone elses wipers set to the middle of the windscreen as the stopping point ? This is one of the things that I never corrected on my 80 280E since I've owned it. Now it's just aggravating having to turn the wiper switch off at the precisely right moment so that they don't set in my field of vision. It's not the position of the wiper arms either because if I remount them in the correct rest position and then turn them on,my hood becomes part of the sweep. Viva la Hoopty

PS,you can see how the wipers set by the W123 in my sig.

i have luckily (i guess) never yet had that problem before.............

we do have that problem with our Green Machine, Opel work kombi, that im sure uv seen on the pics, the wipers one day decided to take the fully raised position as a stopping point, instead of stopping at the bottom of their "range of movement"..........

on the Opel, we learned it was a relay, but never bothered to fix it, caus it looked cool......lol

I believe the wiper motor has a gear indent set to ‘time’ the reciprocal motion of the wipers. That may be why when the blades are set properly on the motor shafts they sweep into the hood.

I saw these indents once in a manual on how to lube the MB wiper motor transmission. The reciprocating gear has a timing mark that lines up to an indent on the gear housing. Obviously something’s out of sync and it looks like you’ll need to pull the motors. Perhaps the motors are simply not installed correctly causing the problem.

That's what the manual I saw said - I don't recall how often. But they are moving gears and need to be refreshed at some point. A 126 owner, I believe, recently 'fixed' his broken power window by applying new grease, that's all it needed.

mine acted up for a while, and then quit entirely, a while back.......

turns out it was only the fuse was oxidized, and needed to be sanded off a bit, and put back, and bingo, good as new!
