AsianML Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Why is the S65 'optioned' while the S600 has everything standard? I just heard about this somewhere. The S600 has every single option standard, whereas the S65 AMG will have options. They did the same thing for the W220. There were some S65's that were running around without Distronic, Parktronic.

I can't imagine that a 6.5l v12 needs to save weight to be a sporty car, but who really *needs* those features in the first place? I, personally, would simply adore a new Benz without even climate control-- who can't flip a switch and turn a dial or even crank a window winder, pull a lever to adjust the seat or flip their own day/night mirror switch?!? I call it laziness, most with money call it luxury. Its all subjective.

But wouldn't it be nice to cruise down the Autobahn in the ultimate luxury cruiser, with the nice stuff standard? I mean having Distronic Plus and Brake Assist Plus would be nice while cruising. Parktronic would be nice for a car as big as the S. And if you're going 100+ mph I wouldn't want to be fiddling around with the windows and climate. And last but not least, you're spending close to $200k+ for car that you need to get options for. For around a little less, you get the S600 that has everything standard.

You've got to understand that these cars are not engineered to be localized after they're sold in their country of origin anymore as well. They design them with America in mind these days, rolling a window down is NOT hard, in fact, finding a window switch is harder for me(i have never owned a car with switches on the console) to do than to use my shoulder and elbow in a circular motion. 100mph is illegal, remember;) The same goes for climate control and all that other stuff as well. I am talking about something smaller, like an E240cdi(i made it up..) or something in a C body, not an S, let those guys have all the buttons and electrical problems they want=)

AsianML Date registered: Dec 1899 Location: Vehicle(s): | Re: Why is the S65 'optioned' while the S600 has everything standard? The window controls on the newer MBs are no longer located on the center console, so that may not be a problem.

I would be lost without mine. I guess the reason is that the S65 is ment to be all sporty? It has a different suspensio set up? I dunno the 600 would be enough car for me I would have no need for the extra power, I find my 320 more than adaquate. I think my car must be what you guys call a euro spec.

Not to mention that the earliest year that Mercedes Benz installed parkatronic from the factory was 1996. And that was for everywhere except the US, the US got it in 1997. But, I actually like the look of yours better.
