Again?

This is the first time, I had it tampered with before but never completely snapped off. This brings the total to 4 times snce december that my car has be f**ked with. New star was only about 40 bucks NZ plus postage which is good. The guy gave me a discount

Hmmm....I think now is the time for this forum to have a "hook up the hood star to the battery" discussion.

Yup, I replaced mine myself, or you could go to the dealer, and I am pretty sure they will do it for free. Especially if you buy it from them. I still have my old one, which is in horrble condition, so please don't mind the paint chipping, scratches, and almost rusted metal of my old hood star, but nevertheless, it will still hepl you. Here are some pics and directions of what to do.

If you need any more Help NZ Benz, don't hesitate to ask man.

 Buy your Hood Star.

Take it out of the box, and go to your car.

When you take it out of the box, your hood star is "unlocked", so after you take out the remains of your old hood star,  (Reverse Procedure of installing the new one) you can put in this one, by

1st: Taking it out of the box
2nd: Putting the base of the hood star through the hole in your hood that houses the hood star

3rd: Twisting the clip of the star at the bottom all the way to the right, until it stops.

4th: When it has gone as far as it needs to go, you it is "locked", and will stay on your hood.

Keep Twisting....

Stop Twisting. You have "locked" it.

RE: Hood Stars.

Thanks for the info man! My one should be here by the end of the week I ordered from Startec up in Auckland and when the money goes into their account they will ship over night. I have not been out to look under the hood but do I have to peel back the hood lining or anything like that? Or is the clip just under the other side of the hood?

Thanks guys.

nope, nothing complicated at all like that. It is right on the underside. Just pop your hood, look up, and you will see the bottom of your hood star. Just twist it off, put the new one in, and twist the new one in to lock. Nothing really complicated. The clip is right on the other side of the hood. If you have any more questions though, I am here to help.

Another thing with the twisting at the bottom Brett on BW was saying that he used plyers or something did you or is it possible to do it with your hands? Might be easier with plyers I guess.

o yea, That is true. I had to use pliers, because it was dirty and grimy under the hood star. Just make sure you get proper pliers, because otherwise you could scratch the bottom of your hood. That's what I accidently did to my W126.

I still suggest you take it to your dealer man. That's what I did with my W126, and they had the proper tools and everything. ALSO, if the MB dealer breaks your parts, they are obligated to replace the part, As long as you bought it from them. (Well, at least at my dealer.) So, that's another good thing. The best part, is that, for my W126, it costed me NOTHING to install it at the dealer. $0.00 USD.

Re: Hood Stars.

Classic. The other day my 18month old son decided he wanted to take a closer look at my star ha ha ha. Needless to say it snapped off. I just laughed when I found out. He was so sorry that I couldn't even think about being upset.
Must go to Startech myself. Will have to wait till I'm back from Christchurch.

true. Not to mention that a new star makes your driving experience a zillion times better. After you guys install yours, you will be in awe by how shiny the star looks on your bonnet. I really loved mine. I still clean my star every week to keep the glow. It really looks amazing. All we have to do is get zeq and dantefr to get new hood stars, and all the regulars on this board will all have new hood stars.

MBNZ230 bought one, because some snow broke off his hood star.
1996_S500 bought one, because........................uh............. he wanted a new one???
NZ Benz bought one because his got stolen.
Photoman bought one because of his curios little child.

That is pretty funny how we have all had to have our hood stars replaced in the past couple of months.

RE: Hood Stars.

Well my new star arrived. Boy it's shiney The problem is when I looked under the hood and tried to get mine off it looks like whoever pulled it off or the person who in the past decided to stick a screw driver under it has bent the screw part all to hell, it almost looks like the thred is of kilter. Either that or it is all gunked up I tried moving the parts on my new one and it is very easy. I guess I will go to the dealership unless anyone has some good ideas.
